Saying "the ACC" should be like saying "the Ivy League."

Maybe. But there's no doubt Vanderbilt has been raking it in for years as a member of the SEC. They might not have a winning record, but it's been an extremely profitable arrangement for them - roughly a billion dollars for ten years. Vanderbilt is a founding member of the SEC and the only private university in the league. They are never leaving the SEC. Not that anyone is asking. Winning is still a little unusual for them.

This, it was a great win but Vandy still won’t be ranked. Lots of fun for alum and current students but don’t think it will move the needle on applicants, which is fine because admissions is already ridiculously competitive.

You forgot Wake Forest, Pitt, BC and NC State ND is not a member of the ACC.

A college where more kids try to get in based on their sports team success is not a college my kids are interested in.

That being said, congrats on the win! It was well-deserved.

This!

I think this theory works for the larger SEC schools, where kids would be on the fence between choosing Clemson or Auburn or UGA or USCarolina.

The students that are Vanderbilt ready or not the students that are chasing a sports team bandwagon. They may be between an ED to Duke or Vanderbilt, but a lot of these students with 4.0 unweighted and over 1500+ on the SAT are deciding between small private top 20 schools like Wash U or Emery or Northwestern or Boston College.

Northwestern and BC also have Power 5 sports and that is one of the reasons they are more popular than Wash U and Emory which are not even D1 schools.

This is great for Vanderbilt. Applications may be up. In fact, applications went down between 2023 and 2024, so maybe that % will come back but that’s not gonna move the needle that much.

(The math for them is to accept more of the class in ED, and fewer RD. Acceptance rate drops. BOOM!)

Yes ND is in the ACC. I did not forget the other schools, other than Wake, I don't find them academic equivalents.

Nope, Notre Dame is not in any league, they play ACC teams in certain sports . Here’s a link so we don’t have to continue to squabble. https://www.on3.com/college/notre-dame-fighting-irish/news/heather-dinich-explains-why-notre-dame-has-no-interest-in-joining-a-conference/

Listen you idiot. ND is in the ACC. My original post said athletics, not just football. Every other sport competes in the ACC. So sit down and shut your mouth if you don't know what the hell you're yammering about.

insane win - what the mom and dad dcum strivers on this site don’t realize is that yes, as intended ur kid going to an ivy would impress your work colleagues, old college friends, and people in town - however, most cool/smart kids want to enjoy their college experience - unless you’ve brainwashed ur mini me into thinking tunnel vision ivy or bust, or your
progeny is a total nerd. My daughter told me that her friend group from top DCUM private were all sending around the vandy partying / goalpost in nashville videos last night. Will 100% impact applicants

Remember what the Rose Bowl did for Northwestern’s applications a generation ago.

VT is no where NEAR the academic powerhouse of BC or Wake. And their sports are way better. You are a doofus.

This really doesn't change anything. There are less than 10 kids at my kid's top DC private who have the stats that Vandy wants and they were already applying (or in many cases-not). it doesn't matter whether the kids in the lower 90% of the class are now on the Vandy bandwagon--they're not getting in (they get rejected from our school each and every year like clockwork.)

But that was a bowl win/whole season of partying and winning. I was there.
