The Republicans and the YIMBYs. |
No, just the Republicans. |
The YIMBYs and the Republicans are aligned on term limits, as they are aligned on many things. |
Evidence about the Republicans: https://moco360.media/2024/07/24/initiative-to-limit-county-executive-to-two-terms-will-appear-on-november-ballot/ Evidence about the YIMBYs: stuff you made up in your head |
It’s not just Republicans. I’m a Democrat and I approve 2 term limits. I commented on the locked thread that term limits apply to presidents, governors, and as an executive it should also apply to county executives. |
It is true that the YIMBYs are torn. On one hand they hate Elrich and want to get him out ASAP, but on the other they would like to play the long game and get an urbanism cult member into that office so that there is absolutely no one to stand in their way. If they get lucky they will get 12 years of damage out of it if they recruit well ahead of future election and get the right Manchurian candidate elected. |
The county executive already has term limits, just like the county council. |
2 terms? |
3 terms, just like the county council. |
But what I support is a 2 term limit just like the other executive branches. |
Based on George Washington's decision in the 1790s, and the Republicans' hatred for FDR's success with voters (1932-1945). Which, actually, has an echo in this ballot initiative, although Elrich is no FDR. |
My opinion is not based on a 1790s decision. I just think a two term limit for any executive in government is a good idea. And up until I opened this thread did I learn it was a democrat versus republican issue. Which is strange to me because in my neighborhood, there are many Harris/Walz signs and signs supporting the term limits right next to them. I don’t think this is as straightforward D vs R as DCUM posters want to make it seem. |
See above about the Republican-aligned interests, in this case, of YIMBYs and those Dems on the County Council who are funded disproportionately by developers and would like to supplant Elrich at the first available opportunity. Not too many Republican YIMBYs -- those trend blue or green instead of red. Meanwhile, development interests who might be Republican, including real estate agents, title companies, rental management companies, etc., who stand to benefit from increased activity associated with the YIMBY-supported density push, might well be termed YIYBYs, relatively safe in their less- or un-affected neighborhoods. For them, a more restrictive term limit would provide double benefit. First by getting Elrich, himself, out of the way from a development perspective, and second by limiting the effectiveness of any Dem executive to come (as a Republican win in the county, given continuing demographic shifts, remains unlikely for some long time). |
| It comes as news to me, as it must to every single YIMBY I know (which is a lot), that YIMBYs are aligned with REpublicans. |
No one is saying that you ARE a Republication, you are just useful idiots doing their work and the work of the people that would have you believe in trickle down economics. There is a lot of overlap there, too. |
