Term limit for Montgomery County Executive?

Anonymous
The upcoming election ballot for Montgomery County MD has a proposal to reduce the term limit for the County Executive position from three terms to two.
Given what I read about the current County Executive, I would be inclined to replace him - end his reign. But I am reluctant to set a low term limit for his hopefully better replacement.
Any thoughts from others on this?

I'd much rather have reasonable limits on power that tend not to provide great advantage to incumbency than to have any term limit.

Thay said, I feel the opposite about the particular candidate, preferring his approach to that of anyone I've seen as a likely challenger, and I see the ballot initiative as an end-around by his detractors where they have not been able to place a more attractive overall candidate on the ballot, indicating that they simply want to ensure a choice from only that one point of view that otherwise would not have the necessary popular support.

He’s the most reasonable involved in MoCo politics. I’ll vote no just for that.

His "reign"? Whether or not you agree with the voters of Montgomery County, the fact is that the voters of Montgomery County have duly elected him to a four-year term, twice. He's the duly-elected county executive.

People who can't win elections push for term limits.

It seems like a terrible job. Totally thankless and low paying.

I think term limits are good in all elected positions. It prevents any one person from getting to powerful. Let's say Trump gets elected again (I hope not) -- at least we'll have the safety of knowing that's it.

In the case of the CoExec (Elrich), he's been a professional politician for decades. Years and years on the Council until term limits were passed and he left to move to CoExec. It's time to move on -- being a politician should not be a career.

Surely in a county of 1mln, we can find plenty of good leaders. Just looking at the Council, I think Friedson would make a good county exec.

His reign (if he wins) will end before any new term limit takes effect. Leave the term limit at 3 terms, same as the county council.

I think the voters should decide that.

And no, we wouldn't have the safety of knowing that's it. The Supreme Court has already decided that the president is above the law, when the president is Trump. If he becomes president again, and if he doesn't die in office, and if he decides he wants to stay president, who will stop him?

Elrich is against the upzoning, right?

He got to bankrupt businesses and ruin kids’ education and he clearly loved every minute of it. (Possibly derived sexual pleasure from it he did it with such gusto)

You all realize that there are term limits in place for every election: if the voters don't want someone in power, they can vote them out.

Friedson? You mean the snake charmer who wants to rezone established neighborhoods of single family houses so developers can tear down an $800K house and replace with THREE condos each costing an “attainable” $800k? He makes me want to puke.

I would suggest term limits for county council.
