Term limit for Montgomery County Executive?

So what is the downside to having the term limited to 2?

If you like having Elrich's lean against the kind of pro-development-without-enough-demonstrated-beneft-to-resident policies that he's discouraged, in a way, through vetos (often overriden) and the bully pulpit of the County Executive (the reach of which is not too great in this Federal-focused town), then you may want to ensure that he can run for a third term in two years, in line with the current term limits. Same if you like him for other reasons or if you don't like the idea term limits at all, preferring 3 over 2 if forced to choose (as presented by the ballot initiative). There may be other reasons.

If you feel the opposite (or otherwise -- again, other reasons/reasoning may exist), reducing the limit to 2 terms may be your interest.

If voters want to elect the person for a third term, why should they not be able to? Besides that the Republicans are angry that Elrich keeps winning and they keep losing.

No one is saying that you ARE a Republication, you are just useful idiots doing their work and the work of the people that would have you believe in trickle down economics. There is a lot of overlap there, too.

I support policies for more housing. I oppose the two-term ballot measure. Please explain to me how I'm doing the MoCo Republicans' work here?

The current term limit is three terms. The vote brings it to two terms.

The term is already limited. I'm fine with the current limit.

Beating an incumbent politician is tough. Once someone gets two terms, there is so much name recognition they are basically guaranteed a third term.

The elected official is only guaranteed a third term if the voters like what the elected official has been doing. That's why the Republicans want to put their thumb on the scale: to counter the will of the voters. I think that's anti-democratic, small d.

+1. This has always been the genius of the Republican developers -- they use language and selling points that are so appealing to YIMBYs, and then the YIMBYs run with it. It's bizarre that the YIMBYs don't realize that they are pawns.

The people have decided that term limits are a good idea for the county executive. I think it’s arguable that the executive position has much more power than the council positions so it’s arguable that a shorter limit for the executive is appropriate.

^^^^ Rapacious developer

Or more likely, a Republican who is upset because the Republicans can't win elections in Montgomery County.

Hahahahahahaha I’m the least Republican person ever and not at all a developer. WTF is wrong with you people.

Whether or not you're a Republican, the fact remains that the county Republicans are the force behind the ballot measure.

The Republicans and the YIMBYs.

No, just the Republicans.

The YIMBYs and the Republicans are aligned on term limits, as they are aligned on many things.

Evidence about the Republicans: https://moco360.media/2024/07/24/initiative-to-limit-county-executive-to-two-terms-will-appear-on-november-ballot/

Evidence about the YIMBYs: stuff you made up in your head

Except all the YIMBYs I see out there talking up term limits.

Question A — Decrease term limit for county executive from three to two

For – 67.85%
Against – 32.15%

Even in deep blue Montgomery County citizens voted for term limits. Good job! This was never a Democrat or a Republican issue.
