As someone with organizational management experience, I can say local Soccer Clubs want their players to get picked up by DCU Academy, for one simple reason: They can promote the heck out of the player and use that fact to entice families to sign up with their club.
Every player they have who can get picked up for DCU Academy is probably worth $40,000 a year in new player sign-ups for their club. |
Players are invited to tryouts at DCU all year round nonstop |
Except Bethesda who don't want their best players leaving for DCU or even trying out. They punish those who do |
How do you punish a player that is good enough to get into DCU? Not welcome them back if they leave DCU? |
They punish players who tryout but don't make it They also punish siblings of players who go to DCU |
SYC as well.
|
If they end up getting an offer, do they jump in mid season or at the end of season? |
|
SYC will punish players who has any interest in leaving for DCU.
Firsthand experience when our DC showed interest in DCU our coach started giving him the cold shoulder. We have another teammate who has a lot of interest in moving to DCU but the coach never advocated for him. His parents were the one who reached out to DCU for more information. Last week, SYC promoted a player who moved to Philly Union. The irony of that is SYC did not develop that player. The player came to SYC last season and has been playing with a different club prior. SYC only uses the move to promote themselves. Said again and again, SYC is not here to develop players. They are in the business of making money.

What club was the kid that move to Philly at before they were at SYC? |
Not SYC.
|
Again, SYC does not develop players. They are bunch of clowns who runs the social media circus.
|
Firsthand experience, watched 2 close teammates make the move to academy teams. There were no "punishments" during the whole contact/trial period. True, the coach did not advocate at all. One player was seen at a MLSNext Flex event by scouts and the other did the legwork of reaching out to several academies. I'll agree with your second paragraph though! |
I think the family was with Paragon. |
Gotcha, seems to be the family used SYC to get exposure on the MLNext platform. Which admittedly, we have do so as well for DS (not at SYC tho). |
I am also very close with one of the families who moved. I heard stories of how ST treated their child once they shown interest in leaving.
