Scouts at MLSNext games

Anonymous
USNT Scouts heavily seek endorsements from the Club leadership. Usually they are coming in based on a reccomendation and viewing some game footage. But when they are there, they might ask about another player they noticed.

I don’t think USYNT scouts are coming out to MLSNext games. Prob just MLSNext tournaments and if a club recommends a player for consideration

U14 and u15 they'll hold ID sessions, kids are invited based on coaches recommendations. Don't expect to make it unless you're on an academy team however. U16 and up I'm not too sure of. I assume they are already aware of the kids who can play at that level. If they do come watch a player, it'll be based off the academy coaches recommendation?

NP here. There was one at our game this weekend. He stood on the same side as the teams, in the middle (as if he were a medical trainer or ref) so no interaction with parents whatsoever. The coaches told the kids, the kids knew. Parents had no idea until game was over. Was 2 MLS Next teams playing one another, one from DMV and one from NJ.

Likely an MLS Academy scout...not a USMNT scout. Big difference. DC United scouts are at most local MLS Next games.

i used to see DCU scouts at all local MLS club games in years before this year. Since the start of the 2024 season, i hardly see them at local games. Are they coming to see your MLS Next club games?

They heavily attend U13 games because U14 is the entry point. Chances are your kid is older now, so they aren't going to be at as many matches. Less spots to fill once kids are in the system. But they are not afraid to kick someone to the curb for the right player.

USYNT scout at three of our games so far and they would sit in the middle between the two teams.

DC MLS Next scouts have been to a few of our games. Sometimes he sits on the parents' side, towards the end and other times I've seen him on the other side in the corner but away from coaches and players.

Yes, they will sit in the middle in between the two teams. I've seen them talk to the coaches on both teams. Our coach told the boys before the game that the USYNT scout was there and will be watching.
