Who in the hell is Celia Cruz?

I love this! Put notable Americans on quarters so that those who want to know can look them up and learn something, kind of like the Google doodle!

Amazing, must be a savant!

Nope. But Celia Cruz has been a feature on several different cartoons for kids.

She was also on Sesame Street a bunch of times.

Seriously, just go watch some of her performances.

Nobody under 40 knows who Cruz is. Everyone under 40 knows who George Washington is. Why are we putting back corner entertainers on currency now? It should be reserved for people who actually change the country and are of great historical importance.

51 here—no idea who Celia Cruz is. I’ve known who George Washington and Betsy Ross was since the bicentennial when I was three.

Again, cool. This is your opportunity to learn something new.

Like seriously, why is this so hard for people. Your reaction to "This woman is important for X reasons" shouldn't be "But I don't know about her and my perspective is apparently the only one that matters." You have access to the internet and in the time you've spent writing this post, you could educate yourself.

Maybe because you have a couple of nerds posting about how pretty much everyone knows who Celia Cruz is. The truth is that most people have no idea.

Most Americans probably can't name the Vice President or the capital of their own state. So what?

OP is, of course, missing the point. The USG is trying to educate people on women in history. Sounds like they're doing a good job.

Kamala Harris and Richmond.

Yesterday I met someone who told me that his parents are from Saint Helena. I was embarrassed that I wasn’t familiar with it, but today I looked it up. It’s fun learning new things.
It’s weird to be so angry and aggressive about this, OP. Are you lashing out because you’re embarrassed? It’s okay, no one knows everything. But you have a great opportunity to discover music that is clearly loved by a lot of people. How cool is that?
