Sure you are

Exactly.

Celia Cruz is a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award winner. Sad there are people here who are just cultural illiterates and think there's nothing wrong with that. Rather than learning about who she is and appreciating her contributions to music and the cultural life of this country.

Lol do I have to agree with what you stereotype a Hispanic to think vote or say? Some of us don't fit your stereotype sorry and yes I do know who Celia Cruz is. But putting her at God like legendary status? Lol only the left thinks all Hispanics think the same.

Go ask 10 people who Celia Cruz is and about 9 will have no idea.

It sounds like you’re in a bubble.

Oh the irony.

Reminds me of my son being shocked that I don't know the latest diss track from Drizzy. She's also been dead for something like 20+ yrs, so maybe old people are more aware of who she is.
I don't know that.

My 8 year old knows who she is. And even has her Barbie.

OP you think it’s unfair so how about you read The lyrics to Celia’s most famous sing- Life is a Carnival and then listen to her music. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rbBm1Y8J1bE

Anyone thinking that like is unfair,
Needs to know that's not the case,
that life is beautiful, you must live it.
Anyone thinking he's alone and that that's bad
Needs to know that's not the case,
that in life no one is alone, there is always someone

I’m neither American nor Latin American and love Celia Cruz!

Anyone in the world who’s heard of BB King or Bob Marley or The Rolling Stones has also heard of Celia Cruz.

¡azucar!

Celia Cruz was a wonderful woman and a great example: she was talented, made her own money, was devoted to her family, loved the U.S., democracy and freedom. She was a black, Hispanic woman who made no excuses - refused to live in a communist dictatorship and came to the U.S. (Fidel Castro banned her music and her ability to return to Cuba - even to see her mom when she was dying.)

She wasn’t woke. She married the trumpeter and was actually a traditional Hispanic wife.

I've heard of BB King, Bob Marley, Rolling Stones. I also listen to some vallenato, cumbia, and champeta.

Never heard of Celia Cruz.

Seriously, just go watch some of her performances.

Nobody under 40 knows who Cruz is. Everyone under 40 knows who George Washington is. Why are we putting back corner entertainers on currency now? It should be reserved for people who actually change the country and are of great historical importance.

51 here—no idea who Celia Cruz is. I’ve known who George Washington and Betsy Ross was since the bicentennial when I was three.

Again, cool. This is your opportunity to learn something new.

Like seriously, why is this so hard for people. Your reaction to "This woman is important for X reasons" shouldn't be "But I don't know about her and my perspective is apparently the only one that matters." You have access to the internet and in the time you've spent writing this post, you could educate yourself.

Nope. But Celia Cruz has been a feature on several different cartoons for kids.
