No one mentioned the joint pain!

I have exercised (cardio/lifting) 6 days a week my entire life, was a college soccer player, ran 6 marathons and I’ve never had knee, hip, back, etc pain. I walk an hour a day too…hot yoga, etc.

Then bam I started getting some hip pain, lower back pain and I thought it was an old mattress. New mattress- no change. Then a frozen shoulder out of nowhere. My entire body aches now and starting to interfere with my day to day. I know this is estrogen related. I’m running to get a patch—ASAP!

Estrogen withdrawal → joint & connective-tissue inflammation

When estrogen drops:
• Joint cartilage becomes less lubricated
• Tendons and capsules stiffen
• Inflammation increases
• Pain sensitivity rises

This is why many women describe menopause as “my body suddenly aged 10 years.”

Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)

Frozen shoulder is strongly associated with menopause, especially:
• Age 45–60
• Perimenopause / early menopause
• Sudden onset without injury

I think you should evaluate your diet OP. Are you taking in enough vitamin D3 and B12? Joint pain is not caused by menopause.

I am 43F and have gained some weight recently. My body aches and especially my hip and knees hurt. is it because of perimenopause or could be from Type2, thyroid issues I have.

Omg menopause, esp a menopause before age 45, is a significant risk factor for arthritis. Smoking is a significant risk factor for cancer. Do you jump all over people and say “oh no smoking doesn’t CAUSE cancer bc smoking is just a risk factor for lung cancer!?!”

HRT very modestly improves joint pain and there are many causes of joint pain other than menopause.

Does HRT ever fixes the joint pain for people or just somewhat helpful?

Hey, everyone! OP here!

The original post I wrote is from August 2024. I finally got an appointment with my doctor in November. She initially told me to eat more protein. I went along with it. We set a follow up video appointment for a month later. I started HRT in January 2025.

My sleep was better within 3 weeks. My other symptoms, including the joint pain, were gone by about 6 weeks. I caught myself feeling totally fabulous around 5 months in.

There's been a backslide, though. Around October, I started having sleep issues and hot flashes. I know I need the prescription adjusted, but my annual has been rescheduled twice so far. Hoping to see my doctor in February.

Other stuff: I'm pescatarian, don't drink, take supplements, and work out 4-5 days/week. I gained about 5 lbs around my middle during peri. There really wasn't anything else to address when it comes to lifestyle.

You changed the subject. We were talking about the joint pain being attributable to PeriM/M which had been denied. I guess you’re admitting it’s undeniable but now want to attack hrt as an imperfect cure?
