Not just you.

Yep.

And I don’t find her as sweet as people here want to make her out to be. There is something wrong with her for wanting to be married to that man. She is either clueless or extremely, extremely selfish.

She clerked for Kavanaugh and Roberts. She is just as right wing and probably as ambitious as her husband and there’s probably very little daylight between them.

Just because a woman isn’t Christian and has a good job doesn’t mean she won’t support taking away rights from women and minorities to serve herself. Amazed at the adorable naïveté of posters here.

Jinx. The people here saying how “refreshing” she is are falling for it hook line and sinker.

But pp, she is the “DCUM IDEAL,” whatever the F that is! See pp right below you. I personally never noticed that the DCUM ideal is supporting making abortion illegal nationwide and *checks notes* firing the entire civil service. I don’t see anyone here looking at their husband adoringly after he takes that position.

Exactly. They are giving her a pass they never gave Mother Pence. Just because she’s skinny and lives in Alexandria?

Remember Mother Pence was married to the guy who certified the 2020 election. Usha is married to a man who openly says he wouldn’t.

She may be pretty (well, pretty-ish) and have gone to Ivy League schools but she has no character. I don’t care if she’s the “DCUM Ideal.” She is selling out other women and minorities so her dh can get rich. She’s gross.

But Mother was from flyover!!!! Usha is vegetarian and lives in Del Ray. She’s so cool!!!

I am shocked by JD Vance and don't agree with his politics but I think Usha did a very nice job under the circumstances for her first appearance on a stage of this size/scope with very short notice. Even if JD had been scheduled to speak for months I don't think she was tapped to have any speaking role until he was actually selected for the VP nom.

I liked that she did not give into the MAGA tradwife vibe, think she made a good fashion choice for the day of the convention she was actually speaking, spoke to what she loved about her husband without having to reveal her personal politics or really endorse his, and I'm sure her hair, makeup and styling will continue to evolve and improve as they continue on the campaign trail.

Being married to someone IS endorsing their politics.

They got engaged when they were still in law school. If you watch interviews with him from even 4 years ago, he was much farther to the left -- he believed climate change was a huge problem and was a proponent of solar energy, for example.

I would definitely believe that they bonded intensely in law school, got married, started a family, and she loves him and is supporting him even though his views have changed. What would you do?

NP. You don't stay married to someone who developed a vested interest in hurting others, and the country. That's not love--that's enabling a bad person. Someone you once loved, can turn into a very bad person.

This is why I think the “aww shucks! I’m just a mom! My husband is the most interesting man I know and we like watching Babe together!” shtick is an act. She’s been groomed for this role from day 1.

Btw, “moms next door” who “aren’t ideologues” as her camp is leaking to the press don’t clerk for two conservative scotus justices. They just don’t.

Do you know actual lawyers in Washington? It doesn’t sound like it. Roberts and Kavanuagh have hired many normal people through the years.

+1. Roberts and Kavanaugh came up as Bush/McCain/Romney era Conservatives especially around the era that Usha was clerking -- same types now being eviscerated from the Republican Party by MAGA.

THIS. My family member was a supreme court clerk to one of the conservative justices and is appalled by the MAGA sector of the party.

Is your family member married to someone who has gone on public record as saying women should stay in abusive marriages and laughing about a woman’s murder because a liberal actor killed her?

Did any of those “normal people” marry a Republican senator who is VP candidate for a total maniac? Come on, guys, I know you are smart and can put pieces together…

Was he a maniac when they got married? I’m sure she’ll tell us there were no red flags just like the tale that a lot of posters here tell.

Then she could pull a Melania and… stay home! It doesn’t even seem to affect Trump’s candidacy AT ALL.

So what’s the excuse for the posters here who post about the MAGA loving posters? Are they expected to divorce too? I’ll let the posters how complain about their husbands’ political views that they are bad people too.

And Mother was so… chubby. Usha is a dark complexioned version of this boards physical ideal: thin (most important!), washed out (makeup is for plebes!), wearing overpriced, shapeless dresses that no one will remember. She’s a Mackenzie, not a Lauren, and that’s pretty important around here.

It's like the moms who say they'll do everything to protect their sons, even if they were committed of violent sexual crime. Loving someone doesn't mean enabling them and their inhumanity. If you're standing by your man even though he's a Trumper (not talking about some old school 80's/90s Republican), then you're a pretty crummy person with broken ethics.

That was a great dress. Anyone calling it a “travel dress” is an idiot or just free-form hating.

Usha! Sup. How’s Milwaukee.

I mean you have to be her to even remotely think that dress was “great”

This kind of exemplifies why this place is nuts. Until Monday, Usha could have been a frequent DCUM poster: DC lawyer mom with three small kids and a husband who seems pretty focused on his own career and seems to have evolved in a pretty negative way through the years. But suddenly this (mostly) normal person is getting all this criticism that she did not put enough makeup on to deal with the convention and TV lights? C'mon I have been clicking on some of your fashion links for years. Let me say I am skeptical that the vast majority of DCUM posters would have made better fashion choices in the same circumstances.

There is a difference between the scenarios you are describing. My coworker with three little kids and a shitty husband doesn’t wear makeup to work? Fine. No qualms from me, do whatever you want.

Woman - whose husband’s party has some pretty regressive views about women - goes on stage at a televised convention with no makeup and ratty hair? No one is calling her a troll just saying what was she thinking.

Her dress was fine. But yes I would’ve gotten a blow out and at least put on more than lip balm to sell America on why they should vote for my misogynist husband who complains about other women being “frumpy cat ladies.”

Her dress, hair, and makeup look fine. I remember many people ripping on Amy Coney Barett for not having a blowout. What is this, 1982 feminism? As long as she’s groomed and dressed appropriately, she’s fine. She doesn’t need 90 minutes in the makeup chair to be in the spotlight.

I think she looks great. Even if I cannot fathom how a woman can support this ticket, much less be married to Vance.

But seriously - y'all are travelling in dresses like this?!

SHE WASNT GROOMED OR DRESSED APPROPRIATELY. That is the argument people are making. A jersey lounge dress and unkempt hair is not appropriate!

Amy Coney Barrett looked lovely. She didn’t look like she overslept and threw on a dress.

OP have you never been in an old navy? How is this website selling a viscose dress for $425 and calling it “luxury quality, fair price?”

I can get a slinky viscose dress for $30 from TJ Maxx and it’ll look great. If I’m paying $$$ at least give me a nice material!!! So many “luxury” brands pull this crap.
