How much is your gym membership?

$90 a year for both me and my husband at any Arlington County gym. It's the 55+ rate.

Huh? If you're only going to one fitness center it's the same cost as a (nice) gym.

DP. $200/year vs. $200/month.

I pay about $70/month for just me. I telework, and the gym is practically next door to me, but it's still hard to find time with parenting. $200/month for a family membership (so, two adult memberships and the chance to bring the kids) sounds like a great deal.

And this questions actually circles back to my original questions. I'm trying to justify purchasing a family membership at a lifetime gym (its like $200/month), and I am trying to show how it will be one of those arrangements that allows for the family to work out together (we all can play racquetball together, or tennis, golf simulator, etc and when the kids are older they can use the gym with us). It won't solve the team sports problem, but at least it means if we go to the gym we can combine it with family time in some instances.

Where are you located that OTF is $89 and how did you get that price? I am in Silver Spring paying $129 per month for 8 classes and hate paying so much but love the workouts.

I pay about $135/mo with tax for GymPass (now WellHub). It's a nationwide network and the gym offerings do appear to change. For the last year, I've been mainly going to Lifetime and YogaSix. You get one sign in per day - so you can't make two gym trips in a day. They also have a bunch of the LA Fitness type places in network, which is useful when traveling.

It's not cheap, but I think well worth it so long as I go. And I've gone about 100 times in the past year.

Do you have a job and kids??

Yes to both!

Would love to see your schedule.are you going at 5am and in bed by 10?

I take 2 - 45 minute classes everyday (barre, yoga, HIIT, spin, lift) beginning at 6 am, back home 8ish, WFH in front of computer 8:45/9

So your spouse does drop off and pickup? If you start work at 9, you would finish at 530, which would be end of aftercare at best, and likely no afternoon activities?

Different pp here, I work from 8:15 - 6:00 everyday and I get home around 8pm. I have a nanny who handles after school sports and activities. I work out 2 hours on Friday - Sunday (a trainer or orange theory plus park stroll / power walk).

wow. where?

I am in DC. I go to the Fort Totten location. They also validate the parking ticket, no need to pay for parking like other gyms in DC.

I’m sorry that is a rough schedule. Does your DH get home earlier?

My husband and I have a premium membership to OneLife, which gives us access to many nice clubs in the region, unlimited classes, parking, towel service, monthly InBody scans, and swimming at some clubs. Family membership is $110/month ($59 for the first family member and $49 for the second - kids are an additional $39 but they're too busy with sports to use it).

This is what I have, but truthfully only go to the crystal city location since the pool is totally open at certain times for long swim workouts (like 1-1.5 hours). I’ve used the clubs out further to take a shower or hang in the hot tub after a long day on a bike, but it’s overall not worth it. I need to revisit my strategy here.

I frequent 4 locations for different reasons on different days. One is closer to my work, another is closer to my home, and another is next to my kid’s sport. The flexibility increases my chances of squeezing in a workout whenever I can. I like the classes better at some locations and the amenities better at others. I go 4x/week for an hour - either a class or weights. I like to walk on off-days so I skip the cardio. If I want to really pamper myself and I’m not rushing, I stay for a sauna or steam. I’m definitely getting my money’s worth.

$10/month planet fitness. I go 4 times a week. I work off hours so I can go when it isn't busy which is really nice.

I’m also with PF, currently $29 for black card but will likely drop to the $10. I only go to my neighborhood gym down the street. I’ve tried other PF locations and none had anything extra that would keep me going. Plus I have a spin bike and weights at home to use.
