Highest average SAT scores post-covid of the top 35 colleges as we evolve into a more test required environment

Except the data says othewise. SAT's matter. There is a direct correlation to academic performance. I get that low scoring well-meaning students think they can muscle through rigorous coursework, but the data says those who perform on the SAT can do it better. Don't fight the facts.

retaking the test over and over (people usually only do 1 or 2) doesn't give you *that* big of a bump.

Regardless, some of the top colleges are finding that SAT scores in conjunction with grades are a better predictor of success in college than just grades (inflated more often than not) alone.

Not according to US News, which claims to have the data of the AVERAGE SAT.

Also from US News:

Notre Dame #20
Boston College #39

As the relevance of the SAT increases, which US News disregards, more people are going to be paying attention to that than some equity ranking from US News. The importance of the SAT is now known, and it is a great metric to measure schools. At least on this point, BC>Notre Dame.

And when USNWR starts using the SAT/ACT scores, it will push BC further down unfortunately. ND has always been and will continue to be higher in the scoring arena. From the CDS 25%-75%:

ND SAT 1450-1550
ND ACT 33-35

BC SAT 1430-1510
BC ACT 33-34

ND has been in top 20 for decades. BC has never even come close. BC will always be what it's letters stand for -- Backup College.

Let's look at what these schools' test scores look like just before test optional went into effect. This would be a more accurate way to evaluate the student body because all students were required to submit.

From the CDS 2019-20 (no test optional)

ND SAT 1410-1550
BC SAT 1370-1490

ND ACT 32-35
BC ACT 31-34

From the CDS 2022-23 (test optional)

ND SAT 1450-1550
BC SAT 1430-1510

ND ACT 33-35
BC ACT 33-34

Looks to me like BC relies more on test optional to boost test scores than ND does.

In the last few years BC's attractiveness has really shot up. The pre-covid SAT's were from a long time ago. BC has Boston, Notre Dame is in South Bend. With TikTok, Instagram, people are drawn to BC, so sometimes things change and a school gets better. From 30 years ago BC has come a long way to where it is likely to surpass Notre Dame. It has too much going for it.

NP no dog in the fight, I love Boston and BC is a good school. But it will Never Ever overtake Notre Dame, not in the next 30 years, and not in endowment, not in sports, not in resources, not in brand among Catholics. For kids with the grades to get into ND and Georgetown, BC is the backup. Sure there may one person who picks BC over the others, but most of the kids at BC either ED’ed to the school strategically, or they chose the school after getting declined by other schools higher ranked..

Keep telling yourself that. 30 years ago, the gulf between the two schools was enormous. Year by year it has been narrowing. Students from all over the world seek out schools in the US. As Catholic identity decreases year by year (as it has been demonstrably) BC will continue its ascent. It is a peer with Notre Dame right now. Professors want to live in Boston. BC has more upside.

Mmmmk, but you know it dropped in the latest rankings right?

BC's new competition is BU, it's next-door which neighbor has climbed big time in the last 10 years.

I disagree. I know of wealthy UMC 'straight A/A-' students in excellent schools who after multiple tries, and after a lot of prep and coaching simply cannot crack 34/1500.

The BC boosters on this thread are hilarious. They are almost as bad as Northeastern boosters. We are elite!!!

BC's problem is it completes with other Boston/NE schools. My extended family used to be a BC family. Then we succeeded a little and became a Harvard family for a couple of generations. Now things are getting more competitive and we're increasingly becoming a LAC family.

ND families are more likely to stay ND families.

One of the reasons ND has such a huge endowment.

Oh by the way...

ND Endowment $16.6 billion
BC Endowment $3.4 billion

Great school. In state tuition I imagine. UMD is not a backup school. UMD, UNC, UVA, even Michigan are all great publics.
