There is a lot of inappropriate stuff that has gone on and is going on in Catholic Churches. Perhaps they should treat coffee like they did the other scandals and just let it happen. |
I did. I snuck it in my big bag after transferring it to my own cup with a lid. And I enjoyed it. F the rules. None of anyone’s business. Take your coffee in! Enjoy! |
You are supposed to abstain from eating an hour before. How is this a question? |
This is really some top notch trolling. I, for one appreciate the hustle. A lazy troll would have just dropped the original post and then not done the work to stoke and nurture it along as you are doing. Nice work! |
What did you do for Communion? |
The only reason to be Catholic is to not F The Rules. Catholic is Christianity + Rules |
That is, in fact, true. I don't jest. I know a seminarian. They can't dump it out as it has been blessed, so they are obligated to drink it. Duty calls, you know! |
Our priest does the consolidation and chugging in front of everyone at the end of communion. It's not a secret they drink it. |
Welcome back to The Church! Canon Law says the following: A person who is to receive the Most Holy Eucharist is to abstain for at least one hour before holy communion from any food and drink, except for only water and medicine. The Mass (because of The Eucharist) is the source and summit of our faith. We owe the Mass our utmost reverence and respect and participation. I hope you stay after Mass and meet parishioners and enjoy the fellowship. Coffee at my parish is not offered after every Mass, but it is on occasion. It is always free. I remember when I returned to The Church. Confession and then Mass was a powerfully healing experience. I am so glad you have returned to Mass! Peace & Blessings! |
No. You go to church to worship God. Go to Starbucks if you want coffee. What is wrong with you!! |
What a kind response! |
This thread is hilarious. OP should convert to Evangelicalism, they not only accept Coffee in church , they often offer it in the lobby before services.
As far as I can tell, it’s only the Evangelicals and independents who do this. Catholics, Mainline Protestants, and Unitarians are holding firm no beverages until coffee hour. Maybe it’s time for a denomination change. |
There was a prayer that substituted for communion. Not sure if that was a Covid special or something done already when people can’t get a physical host. Obviously it wasn’t the same, which is why I had my coffee on the couch as we watched. I missed receiving Communion but really enjoyed watching masses from all over the country. |
I think it's fine to bring it, but not to drink it. Catholics are supposed to fast for one hour before receiving communion and coffee is generally considered to break that fast. Therefore, in order to stay on the safe side, OP should not drink the coffee during or just prior to Holy Mass. |
You have to fast a full hour before Communion, not 30 minutes. I don't know how some people got the notion of 30 minutes unless they got in the habit of saying 30 minutes before a Sunday Mass because it will be at the very least 30 min. Into Mass before we receive the Eucharist. However that would not work for a daily Mass because Eucharist might be distributed 15 to 20 minutes after the start of Mass. It would be much better to say fast one hour before Mass begins... Then a few minutes past the hour will not break your fast. |
