Not in the acceptance letter. Last year they sent EA decisions out the first week of February and Echols notices went out to both ED and EA applicants on 2/15. |
You might be talking about my daughter. She chose Princeton. |
So your daughter got into both Princeton And UVA…. AND got the Jeff but turned it down for Princeton? I can see that. The PP tho was talking about someone who was offered the Jeff but didn’t get into UVA. Does that really happen?? |
Yes. Jefferson Scholars are selected by a completely separate process - outside of UVa. Admissions is part of UVa. It is uncommon but it has happened in the past. |
Familiar w the process. My kid has their school’s nomination. I know several nominees from various schools that didn’t get UVA offers - but I’ve never heard of anyone being offered a Jeff but not getting accepted into UVA. |
this is correct: when the Jefferson gets to the final round, which is february, they communicate with UVA and they all get in. Before that, even if a semifinalist, it is not guaranteed. |
| Tip for those reading this thread: if you really want to be a Jeff Scholar, go to a high school that is allocated one scholarship every year. Historically this was the case at St Chris …. |
| For people asking about timing, I posted what I remember about my DC's Jefferson process on page 2. Good luck to everyone! |
| My friend's relative's kid got a Jefferson scholarship who had two parents who attended ivy schools and my friend and husband, the relatives, were ivy school professors and also attended ivies. Kid went to a small private school and did really well but wasn't published or anything. Seemed like kind of an inside game for kids who like was mentioned before probably would have gone to an ivy instead. |
This must be somewhat new, as there definitely have been a small number of cases in the past where a student was offered a Jefferson by the Alumni Association, but UVa did not offer same student admission. This sounds like a useful fix to how it works. |
The Alumni Association is not responsible for the Jefferson Scholars Program. The Jefferson Scholars Foundation is. Totally separate from the university and the Alumni Association. |
Ha! +1000 people on this thread have no idea of the various "factors" involved. |
Which high schools are these? |
I don't understand either of these posts. Care to explain? |
| My oos DC was the one nominee from their list, didn’t make it past semi but was accepted. Didn’t attend. |
