It's not crazy if you understand how it came to be.  [b]It was started solely by alums who wanted to give these very generous scholarships in order to lure to UVA students that otherwise might go Ivy.[/b]  My DS got his school nomination and made it to regionals but not to the finals, which are actually done at UVA.  A friend of his (same church) did get it, though. Yep. I know a kid who got it and turned it down for Princeton.  
It makes zero sense for a kid to get turned down for UVA after being impressive enough to get this scholarship.  (?)[/quote]

Yes. Jefferson Scholars are selected by a completely separate process - outside of UVa. Admissions is part of UVa. It is uncommon but it has happened in the past. [/quote]

Familiar w the process. My kid has their school’s nomination. 
 I know several nominees from various schools that didn’t get UVA offers - but I’ve never heard of anyone being offered a Jeff but not getting accepted into UVA. [/quote]

this is correct: when the Jefferson gets to the final round, which is february, they communicate with UVA and they all get in. Before that, even if a semifinalist, it is not guaranteed. [/quote]
