Agree. Has zero name recognition outside of Virginia. Nothing like William and Mary or UVA, which are national brands.

Do the kids at least get into good grad schools? Agree with posters who claim that academic rep at UR is just meh. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the ur kids going to lower tier law and grad schools.

This is a naive take. One, Richmond is an excellent school. Second, it matters more how you perform in undergrad and test scores than the name on the diploma. I know Richmond grads that are in law school at UVA and an Ivy.

No one confusing U Richmond with W&M and UVA. Is it even in thr same class with an American or GW? I don’t think so. Feels like a private Christopher Newport.

Come on. It’s not THAT bad. I’m sure you can get a decent education there. Not sure I’d send my kids there but it’s probably an okay school.

The entire school comes from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Jersey Shore U.

Ha I went to UR and graduated his year. I was wondering if someone was going to say this. He isn't reflective of the rest of the study body

It is kind of funny because the area it’s in—directly nextdoor to the Country Club of Virginia—is so quintessentially old money Virginia. They don’t generally take kind to Yanks.

I'd say B students. It's solid enough, pretty typical for a mid-tier school.

+1. School is mid-tier. Go there if they give you gobs of money and you don’t have better options. You will be fine.

Seeing as how most of their students are from outside Virginia, I don’t think most Virginians care much about it.

No one from Virginia would go there. We can send our kids to far better state schools for 1/3 of the price.

I think lots of kids from DMV apply because it is close, has pretty campus, and gives off a good vibe. But I don't think the rest of the country even knows about it. Seems like a rich white Southern school trying to break out of that box but not yet achieving that goal.

I’m from NJ and it was popular there twenty years ago. Some weird haters in this thread.

I had never heard of it until I moved to the DMV.

Had never heard of it until I moved to the RVA. Isn’t Lil Dicky their most famous grad of all time?

Soon to be Kash Patel. Earl Hamner (the Waltons), Tim Finchem, former PGA Commissioner.

Richmond is a little bit like Duke. (Yes, Duke is obviously on another level in prestige.) They are both largely the result of big philanthropy from one person (James B. Duke and E. Claiborne Robins). They have nice, isolated, Gothic campuses that are generally dissimilar to the architecture of other colleges in the state. They are in their state but not really of their state, attracting most students from OOS. They put pretty high emphasis on sports.
