University of Richmond thoughts

I don't think Richmond is well known or respected outside of Virginia.

I think lots of kids from DMV apply because it is close, has pretty campus, and gives off a good vibe. But I don't think the rest of the country even knows about it. Seems like a rich white Southern school trying to break out of that box but not yet achieving that goal.

I’m from NJ and it was popular there twenty years ago. Some weird haters in this thread.

Child was accepted with good merit and we are planning to attend admitted students day. Does anyone have practical guidance on how Richmond might fare under the current administration. I know they may tax endowments.

I think liberal arts schools with big endowments will fare better than large research institutions that will lose tens of millions in nih funding. The current administration may tax the endowment, but better to have the endowment than not have the endowment.

Agree. Has zero name recognition outside of Virginia. Nothing like William and Mary or UVA, which are national brands.

Do the kids at least get into good grad schools? Agree with posters who claim that academic rep at UR is just meh. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the ur kids going to lower tier law and grad schools.

This is a naive take. One, Richmond is an excellent school. Second, it matters more how you perform in undergrad and test scores than the name on the diploma. I know Richmond grads that are in law school at UVA and an Ivy.

Seeing as how most of their students are from outside Virginia, I don’t think most Virginians care much about it.

Not from Virginia and disagree. Richmond is as known as William and Mary, which is not known nationally.

I am from California and knew William and Mary from history. I knew Richmond is in Richmond. That said, it seems like a fine school with one of the nicer campuses in the country.

I had never heard of it until I moved to the DMV.

I’ve lived in Virginia for about 30 years altogether—northern, central and southeastern—and the only two people I’ve ever met who went to U of Richmond were from NJ and Pennsylvania.

Had never heard of it until I moved to the RVA. Isn’t Lil Dicky their most famous grad of all time?

Lil Dicky graduated from their school of business, so I guess they got that going for them. 😂
