What is "Big 3"?

Astonishing that someone with these stats is bothering to apply to you of them. Others from the big three with such stats, almost surely end up at IV and other schools much higher ranked than Michigan.
Something seems fishy

My kid with similar stats from a "big 3" decided on Michigan. What would that be a surprise?

My daughter accepted LSA!
Co-valedictorian at large NJ public
540 SAT, 5’s on 5 APs, 2 varsity sports, other strong ECs
Really put time into supplementals
3rd gen legacy tho Mich supposedly doesn’t care

They do care. I’ve heard it bumps it up a bit, especially if they’ve visited campus, then the acceptance rate is similar to in-state. Congrats still, it’s a great option!

About 25-30 percent of students from private schools in DC apply EA to Michigan (starting from the very top students with 4.0 type GPAs). No surprise here.

Deferred. 3.9 UW, all top rigor and math, NYC private, 1500 SAT (but 800 on math) and legacy. Good ECs but nothing on national level or super quirky. Hoping it comes through in March. Disappointed but not shocked. His school got 6 in EA last year and this year only 1. Hoping things shake out in the spring.

True, our top DC private has had around 35 students apply each year. And this is not counting those who withdraw after getting in ED/REA elsewhere by mid-December.

You of them is clawing its way up the ladder. Pretty impressive when you think how many people east of Pittsburgh think the Midwest is only good for growing corn & rust.

To help overcome entitlement.

What’s entitlement? So far she has 3 rejections and 3 deferrals!! Shouldn’t have applied early.

entitlement (noun): the baseless assumption that one deserves what one wants.

junior DD has a 1530, eyeing MI. after what she's seen today on reddit she wants to take the SAT again.

Stop trying to make "you of them" happen, Gretchen.

Hope he gets in! Kind of surprised she was deferred as she has great stats and is legacy. MI seems rough this year.

Congrats!!

So this is her backup to Ivy?

MI EA is about GPA and how many from your school are applying and where you fall in that cohort.

Our CCO said it’s 3.95uw requirement for UM EA. In some cases test optional test optional is fine depending song on rest if cohort.

All algo based.

Most of the class gets in regular decision (gpa 3.8-3.95uw) with a few in the 3.7-3.8 range.

No one ever before below 3.7 uw. And remember, Michigan re-calculates GPA to take out pluses and minuses - do use the recalculated number. You can Google how to re-calculate your kids GPA according to UM.
