Socialism can be quite reasonable and good, but it isn’t scalable. |
| Almost a third (maybe quarter?) of Americans are on Medicaid and have a totally different experience, even having gender confirming healthcare fully covered. So we’re doing well in some ways. |
I'm on Medicaid and love it. And I live where I can get the best (US) care possible. When I went to Ireland and England and got Covid, at first I couldn't even find a doctor (socialized medicine doesn't treat americans), and then when I finally did, they wouldn't give me any medicine |
Not necessarily. I'm also Canadian. Sometimes coverage through work covers "some" prescriptions, and maybe dental. Physio, massage etc is not always covered. |
|
Canadian here again and I have no idea what the PP is talking about when they say we just die instead of getting care. No one who needs care is just turned away to die. It doesn't matter how old they are.
The system is far from perfect but I hear the most outrageous dystopian fiction like groups of doctors meet to decide who lives and dies. We pay a lot in taxes and doctors aren't rich the way they are in America. |
Sure, not always. I don't get any of that covered because I freelance. It really depends on your employer. I know some people with these insanely good insurance packages, like the ones who get pet care. Dental and scripts vary by province as well. If I lived in Quebec a lot of the meds I take would be covered. There's some new universal dental coverage too but I don't qualify for it. |
Calling Switzerland socialist is an odd thing to do. It's decidedly a capitalist country but with a very strong support network for its people. Denmark is another good example. |
|
No other country allows big pharma to control virtually the entire medical system the way we do.
We spend the most, but still have the absolute worst health. We have sick care, not health care. Pharma is out of control. |
You’re on Medicaid but can afford international travel? |
| The best is to be an American with both primary and secondary insurance living near a Level 1 trauma center (even if you don’t need the trauma capabilities, there are usually tons of other services connected to such an institution). |
Why? |
|
Given Republicans are going to gut the ACA our healthcare system is about to get even worse.
Ie Project 2025 all there in black and white print. Say good bye to preimums at the high prices they are now and welcome in higher premiums with like zero coverage. |
Very obvious reason. Highest quality care possible, no out of pocket costs. |
|
With all the gazillions of dollars we have been forced to pay — only God knows how many — researchers, we are getting sicker and sicker, now the sickest in the world.
What the hell is going on?!?!?? |
| One area where the rest of the world lags behind the USA is mental health services and services for special needs kids. |
