I don’t mean to be mean or touch upon a sensitive topic. But are you Indian? I’ve found that Indians are obsessed with skin tone, but are simultaneously totally blind to the differences between Mediterranean skin tones and South Asian/Persian ones. I’ve encountered quite a few Indians who think Italians or Spaniards or Greeks, or in this case, Portuguese people, look like they can be Indian and are even darker than some Indians. But they are literally the only ones who think that. I, for one, have never confused a Spaniard with a Punjabi or an Italian for a Bengali. They look totally different. Indians, even the very, very light skinned ones are browner in their skin tones. Kamala is much browner than Ronaldo. I don’t know how you cannot see that.

Not to mention her lifelong experience with oppression and male-domination in the US.

Kamala's dad side owned slaves in Jamaica. Those slaves suffered opression, not Kamala.

Kamala's mom side comes from a privileged high caste in India. People in the lower castes suffer oppression, not Kamala.

She's a fraud. As is anyone who thinks she should get some preferential treatment because of her skin color while ignoring her family's facts.

But other would argue that because of her skin color, she's the victim of systemic racism.

Just like we assume every POC needs a helping hand, even those who are wealthy. So many government programs are based solely on skin color, not need.

They consider themselves white. I worked with one and he would cut you if you tried to classify him as Hispanic. Our manager tried because he wanted to increase the diversity numbers.

I’m kind of amazed that people on this post don’t seem to think of things like derogatory words used to describe certain races or those with a different ethnicity. In my opinion, having a derogatory word attached to your race, yes, I said race regarding Portuguese people, is unnecessary and a form of bigotry, racism and discrimination.
Growing up I was called a GREENHORN and. PORTAGEE. BOTH are discriminatory terms against Portuguese people.
So…NO, I was NOT treated as a white person. Look up the terms. No white person would call another white person either of these words.

You were treated as a white person, just like the Irish and Italians before you. You don't become a POC just because there is a discriminatory term about you, otherwise white Americans in Spanish speaking areas would be POC.

I can guarantee you that most of these "thousands" of Brazilians you've met and are considering non-white would actually laugh and be pretty offended to hear you don't think they are white.

DH has “white” on his license and truly believed himself to be white. I explained to him because he is mixed like Mariah, he is black.

Aren't all Romance languages derived from Latin and therefore you can call the people who speak those languages Latino? Usually it only refers to Hispanics, but Portugal is near Spain so seems also Latino.
