So this middle easterner is white? He's the former emir of Qatar.

According to US government forms, yes Arabs are white. So are Persians, afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, etc.

They are all classified as non Hispanic white in government forms and do not benefit from any DEI benefits or preferential hiring. They are not considered minorities.

I thought Palestinians are brown people who are oppressed by evil white Jews, no?

Does anyone have a scorecard so I can keep up with who is and isn't POC?

Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the greatest soccer players of all time, is Portuguese. He doesn't look white to me.

Really? He looks white to me!

He is darker than Kamala Harris, how in the world he is white?

Because Kamala is of African and North Indian descent and he is of European ancestry so whiter than kamala

Kamala is also a direct descendant of slave owners; not the case with Ronaldo as far as we know.

Wait - descendant of slave owners??!?

Most Black Americans are, you know.

Portuguese people are European not Latino, Idiot!!!

Brazilians are portuguese speaking Latinos, but they are not Portuguese.

People can be native Portuguese speakers of all colors, just like spanish speaking latinos or spaniards. Personally, I am a white hispanic Latina.

White is socially determined. Who is a person of color is socially determined.
Who is discriminated against is socially determined. When I went to college in Ohio, the forms there barred discrimination against people of Appalachian origin. They were certainly white, but also discriminated against and a protected class.

Spanish people should absolutely not be considered people of color in the US. There should be clearer definitions of who is and who is not hispanic.

Just because it's subjective doesn't make it meaningless. I don't think any of us would say racism doesn't exist. I hope not at least.

My mother in law is half Portuguese and half Brazilian. She was absolutely discriminated against as a person of color in a variety of ways. Her in laws did not want her marrying into their families because she was basically considered colored 1970s.

That particular family was probably discriminating against her more because of her Brazilian side (which did include African and significant indigenous DNA) than her Portuguese ancestry from both sides.

Stop trying to define everyone by how white or not-white they are. You do realize that this attitude is the ultimate in white supremacy, don’t you? (That is, you consider white to be the default race, everyone else is a “person of color” which boils down to either not white or not white enough.)

So, you're saying you don't even see color, right?

It is all nonsense. A nonsense way of categorizing people according to each of your "personal truths".

I thought we all agreed on this obvious fact for decades now but I guess not. Race is a construct. Period. We will never eliminate racism until we stop separating ourselves based on unscientific concepts of race.

Oh, I thought our race was determined by genetics. Do two white parents ever have black kids? This is an amazing topic

I’m saying what I said. Sorry you don’t get it, racist.
