Yes. Didn’t all applicants? |
Accepted into Engineering! NOVA, 4.6W GPA, 1460 SAT.
Go Hokies! Crush those Wahoos again in football! |
This is the key fact to know. Did any EA applicant not get this first email? |
Looks like the admission team at Virginia Tech lied about test optional. The only kids that got in have SAT scores posted. |
Not true. On other forums I have seen acceptances for kids who did not report |
I think this first round is for the students with the strongest academic stats, i.e. high GPA and high SAT or ACT. This is college after all right? |
That makes sense that they would want to catch their strongest candidates before ED2. I don’t know why more flagship publics don’t do rolling EA admissions-it’s a great idea! |
I think Va Tech might have alienated a lot of kids and parents who thought they had a good shot at getting admitted with this pre-Christmas "soft rejection." Why send the notification to everyone? I'm the parent of a Va resident applicant with 1510 SAT, 4.3 GPA and completed/taking 12 AP courses (only courses left in the school for them to take that build on previous STEM courses) with 5 x AP test 4s and 5s (none lower) including a 5 on AP Calc. Not admitted yesterday although two friends from another HS with lower SAT/ACT scores were, and now wondering what they're looking for as a STEM candidate. Just a very unpleasant surprise for all of us. |
That is stressful. But, maybe, as another poster suggested, it's more like rolling. For those who got the email, perhaps your apps were read, and the slam dunks were accepted, but that doesn't mean the others are rejected or deferred. Maybe those are the apps they need more time to consider. Hang in there! |
Yes VT is known to have a poorly run admissions department. Who could forget the over enrollment a few years ago and Tech absolutely does yield protect. They are terrible at figuring out their yield. It’s a known thing in the college counseling circles. This early release is very odd and if my kid had applied, they’d feel pretty put off by it. |
New poster here Same. Between this and the UTK thing a few nights ago (and I know there is a lot of students that apply to both UTK and VT) it's been a tough week for a lot of students. Are the admissions departments intentionally trying to be mean a few days before Christmas, or are they just clueless? Neither one is good. |
weird, sorry. I know a kid with similar stats (slightly higher) who got into uva engineering last year after rejection from tech and is happy there but still, weird with high stats! |
Poor communication all around. The email caused bad feelings and confusion. Poorly done indeed. And unnecessary. |
Since there's no ED this year, and the EA's decision usually comes out in February. It's a possibility that the VT admission office is getting a lot of inquiries about the release date and therefore, decided tp release EA offers in stages. |
