It sounds like VT is just moving to a modified version of rolling admission.
Congrats to those in the first wave! |
Ok, so VT doesn’t have a great IT staff helping the admissions department. Calm down, admissions is wading through all these apps. At least 25% of accepted students can now relax and celebrate their result.
Back in the day Columbia University forgot to send me my acceptance letter. I had to call and ask where it was. |
And the other 75% are going to get disenfranchised… At least send an email to ALL EA applicants- how hard would that have been??? |
This is a normal and sane take. Who are these hysterical chicken littles? I thought I'd seen everything on this forum, but I guess not... |
Wait - did you just claim that the 75% of applicants whose decisions are yet to come are *disenfranchised*?? ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Yes, because this site has become woke. Everyone wants to see themselves as a victim |
"If my kid doesn't get a decision in the first batch, he is truly disenfranchised!!" |
We don’t know what order applications are reviewed and how they sort them into pools. It helps VT to know some acceptances early so they can better manage yield. It helps students to know earlier so they can make a decision, especially if VT is their first choice.
Accepted students should pay their deposit and sign housing contract asap (it’s all refundable and cancelled later if they change schools). Early sign up for housing is really helpful. |
This is true, but I think given the delayed FAFSA situation this year, quite a few kids may wait until May 1 to inform schools. My DC was at a large party Friday night. Three students who were accepted have already decided they won't attend VT (UGA, TN or Clemson and UVA), but didn't have plans to notify VT until their deadline. My DC also said quite a few kids were annoyed with the recent email and mid Feb notice. It sounds like many thought/hoped decisions would be released earlier given the lack of ED. I wonder if this confusing approach will hurt VT's yield. |
If VT or any other school really wants to protect its yield they need to come right out of the gate offering merit aid in offer letters. The super late FAFSA is def going to force families to wait until March/April. And since VT did away with ED they are really putting themselves at a disadvantage because you can't count on all those full-pay ED admits. |

VT and UVA offer very little merit and focus on need based. |
NP. Ah, the political "woke" poster again. You work really hard to get this into as many threads as possible. Are you paid or just brainwashed? So nuts. |
