Who was included in the first round of offers?
Because we want to review each application with care and because of the increasing number of applications Virginia Tech receives each year, our application review process will take some time. However, as they are reviewed, we will have a pool of offers ready to release. Given that, we decided to inform those whose applications we have reviewed with offers as soon as we were able to do so. Please note that all Early Action applicants can expect to receive a decision by late-February and all Regular Decision applicants can expect to receive a decision by mid-March. Our team is working hard to notify you even sooner and we will send another email when we plan to release additional decisions to keep you and your family members informed of what to expect as we move forward.
How many offers were released?
About 25% of our first-year offers have been released with this round, leaving the majority of intended additional offers to be made in the spring.
How many rounds of decisions will be released and when will the next round be released?
We do not have a set number of rounds of decisions that we anticipate to release at this time. We will send another email when we plan to release additional decisions to keep you and your family members informed of what to expect as we move forward.
When will I receive an offer packet in the mail?
Offer packets to those admitted will not be sent by mail until late-February
When will I receive financial aid information?
Due to changes made to the FAFSA, financial aid packages will not be available until later in the spring as institutions will not have access to data from the FAFSA until late-January at the earliest. For any applicants who are admitted, we will send an email when your financial aid package is available in your Applicant Portal.
Why didn’t I receive a decision?
Given the attention we want to give your Ut Prosim Profile, it can take a great amount of time to review our volume of applications. We have not finalized all decisions at this time. We had a small pool of offers that were ready to be released so we decided to inform those applicants as soon as we were able to do so. Please note that all Early Action applicants can expect to receive a decision by late-February and all Regular Decision applicants can expect to receive a decision by mid-March.
If I didn’t receive a decision, does it mean I will not be offered admission?
If you do not receive an offer of admission, it is not a reflection of your status in the applicant pool. There will be many more offers extended to applicants after this week’s round of offers.
I was offered admission. What are my next steps?
You can find your next steps listed in your Applicant Portal.

But some did not receive letters?

Why send a letter to applicants not included in this round?

So they would have an explanation of why others were getting acceptances two months ahead of the expected date.

When they said "small", I was thinking 5-10%. I wasn't feeling too bad for my student until I saw that it was 25%. That makes me a little more nervous for them.

Did your kid get the first email?

Just when I thought UTK was running away with the 2024 award for worst application decisions process VT one ups them with this stunt

It is definitely a "hold my beer" move.

We are thinking that getting the 1st email with no 2nd acceptance email means that a rejection is coming, but VT did not want to send an outright rejection right before Christmas.

My kid has now mentally taken VT off their list and moving on to other acceptances and merit age.

Getting the email without the acceptance is clearly a precurser to the rejection letter.

Penn State has been dribbling them out since the first week in November, and they just deferred a bunch until RD.

It's possible, but runs contrary to the info in the email. What are you basing this opinion on? The "hold my beer" comment was hysterical and spot on.

But did Penn state send an announcement email to only some students? Then of the kids getting the email (not all ED applicants) only accept some of those kids, while going radio silent on the others who got the notice?

If it is a rejection, just reject them. Or defer them. Don't do what VT appears to have done today.

I am basing it the fact that not all ED applicants received the initial email. Only a portion of ED applicants received the initial email.

Then within the email group, only some students received an acceptance. The rest, nothing.

I think the portion of ED kids who received the 1st email are the applicants that VT already made a decision on. Some were accepted. The kids who did not get an acceptance but did receive the 1st email are likely rejections, in my opinion. They have a decision, but not one VT wants to share before the holidays, while VT is happy to share the good news with accepted kids. To me, no follow up contact = a rejection that will arrive after January 1st.

If it is not a rejection, then why did only some ED applicants receive the initial email? The only thing that makes sense is that those ED applicants (all of them) who received the email have a finalized decision. It is just that VT only followed up with the kids who were receiving good news.

This is just unneccesarily annoying since we were not expecting a decision at the first place, and now received the notice that 25% of the seats are taken and we still have no decision is really cruel. May be Vtech thought the acceptence decision will encourage those lucky families to not submit anymore RD applications. And the rest of us are just sad ...

Accepted! Surprised and happy. DS 1560 SAT Physics. So happy. Did anyone get financial aid info at the same time?

DS was borderline. 3.9 TO

Got the first email so it appears his app was read. Either deferral, rejected or waitlist. We are moving on. Have a couple SEC and Big10 acceptances in.
