Interesting question. Here are some possibilities:

It would be easily defended using the same standard Boston POC "electeds" used:

“It is not at all divisive, it is creating spaces for people and communities and identities with shared experiences to come together,” said Ruthzee Louijeune, a Boston city councilor at-large. “We are still breaking barriers and it is so important for us to carve out and create that space.”

Ruthzee: do you employ dishonest double standards, or not?

One mishap by some idiot in Boston isn't comparable to the thousands of years of abuse minorities throughout the world have experienced at the hands of their oppressors.

Isn't she Han Chinese?

What does that matter? She is an idiot that made a mistake. Move on. There are bigger problems in the world than one silly mayor's inappropriate party and her stupid assistant that can't determine how to delete recipients of an all staff email before sending it. They aren't evil, racist people. They just aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.

Isn't the problem that she, the Mayor of Boston, had the explictly racially discriminatory party rather than her assistant accidentally inviting everybody and then disinviting a group of people because of their race?

It's not a mishap. It's racism by democrats. Just like the anti-semitism by democrats. Stop trying to talk your way out of it. There is no rationalization for this.

Okay so it's somewhere between a mishap and racism. Still not a big deal. No one was hurt. I wasn't invited and could care less.

You’re not a member of the city council.

How do you know other people weren’t hurt by this obvious snub? How dare you assign feelings to other people.

Children are dying of starvation all of this world and you think I'm worried about some council member in Boston having their feelings hurt due to not being invited to a party? I'm not

NO, it's not between them. It's racism, plain and simple.

Hmmm. Can't defend it so let's make things up out of thin air about white mayors to rationalize it. Had white mayors done the same, they would be hung. Stop lying.

Here’s the thing. No one cares what you think. Your opinion is completely irrelevant.

The taxpayers and city council memo of Boston do care.

O. M. G.
Most progressives are critical race theorists and, as such, don't view this as racism. They see it as justice. This is insane but that's most progressives these days.
