So anyone questioning whether this party was divisive should be labeled a Trumper or a deplorable?

I guess they should be shamed and canceled on social media too. Shouldn’t really talk about it. Everyone stop posting. There is no questioning anything. Go outside. It’s 57 degrees and bunny. The thought leaders on this thread have spoken and determined that wrong speak is present and that we must all accept all just not posit anything else.

See thread on whether America is a melting pot in the Off Topic forum.

Sigh.

America has never been a melting pot. People come to this country and then go live in neighborhoods to be among people they left there country of origin.
Their kids assimilate. Or at least they used to. Progressives now push the idea of a salad bar where nothing mixes. This is insane, anti-American, and detrimental to immigrants

Wow, you racists are out in full force. How very white of you PP and the likes. I guess you only know Black and white with your pea brains. Mayor Michelle Wu invited people of all races to the event. She just did not give a special invitation to people of your ilk who thinks your white privilege trumps everyone else.

Wait a minute. How do you know who is a POC? Are you just going by skin shade?

This should do wonders to bring unity to the city council.

Nothing like wanting people to work together - then disinviting half of them based on their skin color. Wonder what would have happened if she had disinvited only POC?

Progressives define POC as everyone but non-hispanic white people. Sometimes they don't count white Hispanics if they are conservative or right-wing.

They don't count Asians (including Indians) as POC either. In order to be POC (according to progressives) one has to be non-white AND adhere to values that do not lead to success in a western enlightenment culture.

So, you either think the optics of this are good or they aren’t.

They're not questioning it. They know what happened. They're working to rationalize it and create cover for it. Reread the post with "pretend" in it.

A Republican would never do this. Would they?

You would hear all about it if they did, the only difference is people would be on social media claiming the news of it had them writhing on the ground in anxiety.

So - would you respond “so what?” to a whites-only, public officials party?

The tired "gotcha-fails" of the ignorant.

Not PP but in the government it is very inappropriate to have an event that is either restricted to one race or seemingly excludes other races. It's ok to have a party celebrating specific diversity so long as it's open to everyone.

Congressional Black Caucus

They work together to solve specific problems and also work with everyone in Congress. This is a holiday party where the host doesn’t want one specific race to attend her party.

People make the excuse “it was only Whites for years”. Ok, how long until every race makes an effort to get along.

Interesting question. Here are some possibilities:

It would be easily defended using the same standard Boston POC "electeds" used:

“It is not at all divisive, it is creating spaces for people and communities and identities with shared experiences to come together,” said Ruthzee Louijeune, a Boston city councilor at-large. “We are still breaking barriers and it is so important for us to carve out and create that space.”

Ruthzee: do you employ dishonest double standards, or not?

One mishap by some idiot in Boston isn't comparable to the thousands of years of abuse minorities throughout the world have experienced at the hands of their oppressors.

You don’t suggest that we move on? Everyone ends to do their part. No exclusions because of ethnicity. Period.

The crazy thing is that they could have just pretended that it was never meant to be racially discriminatory. But for some reason they decided to explicitly disinvite people. It became not only racist but extremely rude. Standard etiquette is that if you accidently invite someone then you leave it be, pretend it was intentional, and accept the expanded guest list.

That is white people etiquette, POC don't give a ... for your etiquette.

I didn't realize that evidently POC are all a-holes. Please let me know in which POC culture it is socially acceptable to disinvite people from a party.

But now they know it's okay as long as they have a second party with everyone included.
