Wait, the Obamas produced this movie?

God, what a grift.

How so? Be specific.

The book was great. It was a finalist for the National Book Award in 2020 and it was on Barak's summer reading list in 2021. I don't see this as a grift. The movie feels like a play to me. I liked it.

Glad I checked this thread. Will take it off my watch list.

I thought Ethan Hawke did a great job too. I wish there had been more Kevin Bacon. I liked the movie.

Kevin Bacon is such a good blue collar character.

When the $hit goes down, those are the kind of people who survive. Like Daryl Dixon. I was shocked he wasn’t at the neighbors already (where the daughter went).

PP here who pointed out that Ali’s wife, not daughter, was in the book. Kevin Bacon is the contractor, huh? Wasn’t he Latino in the book? Not that every character has to match. I’m open to white characters in books not being white in movies, so I need to think on whether going the other way is a big deal in this movie. In any case, they are interesting choices coming from the Obamas’ production company. (And I love the Obamas.)

In the book the contractor was white. He wasn't a survivalist though.

I think it's worth a watch. Even if you end up hating it.

It’s a movie about the end….the end of what exactly, we don’t know. It was thought-provoking and left us with a sense of unease. That was the whole point.

I expected an unhappy ending. But not a stupid one which made no sense at all.

Julia is 56…too old to play the mother of a 13 year old imho…very unlikely.

That is a silly comment.
And the movie was awful.

Well my cousin has a 12 year old at 60.

Exactly. Also, Julia was playing early 50s.

Not every movie gets a happy ending, sweetie. What did you think? The internet would be restored magically, Rose could watch the last episode of Friends somewhere other than a bunker? The deer and flamingoes would become friends and live peacefully together ever after?

I am shocked by the negative reviews but as another PP said, this isn't a very "deep" group. In fact it's a rather dim group.

Hun, it’s not just DCUMs. Netflix viewers as a whole are trashing the movie.!
