"Leave the World Behind" film

How is this movie THIS bad? (Leave the World Behind). I just about gave up in the opening scene when Julia Roberts is standing by a window, the camera zooms in on her aggressively to the point where you can see the pores on her nose, and she's like, "I hate this world" and I'm like WTF who made this s**t.

Which is too bad because apocalypse films are my favorite, because I do in fact hate everything about late stage capitalism.

Can someone watch the rest of this dumb movie and tell me if it's worth the rest of my Friday night.

Watch “A Murder at the End of the Workd” instead. Series. So good!

Well, the book wasn’t that great either.

The book made me say WTF. I can’t believe how long the movie was, and it was better than the book. It’s an eerie movie. The casting of the kids felt weird.

I HATED the book. So I can’t imagine the movie is very good.

I read the book when it came out during the height of the pandemic and it just made me more freaked out than ever…and it wasn’t even that good. No way am I going to watch the movie.

Wow. I'm surprised at the negative reviews. We kind of liked it.

I liked Ethan Hawke and Julia Roberts together. Mahershala Ali was great as usual.

It was a bit preachy in the end, but I liked how they unspooled the story so you didn't know right away what they were dealing with. I found it a somewhat realistic portrayal of near future dangers.

Add me to the list of those who was underwhelmed by this film.

Watched it with my teens last night. We liked it. It was different, and I agree with pp that the casting of the kids felt off - especially the 13 year old. Did not like Julia Roberts either Ethan Hawke, didn't seem believable at all.

We were shocked with the ending, but the way the filming was done was fitting for something like this.

Wouldn't necessarily recommend it to everyone I know... wouldn't watch again... have no desire to read the book. But for entertainment on a Friday night, it was fine.

I agree on the son, but the daughter seemed like good casting. The son was too old and didn't look like he could be the child of Roberts and Hawke. The daughter seemed appropriate age and looks wise and her obsession with a show, feeling like she wasn't heard, was spot on to me.

Yeah agree it's fine. I love dystopian films so I watched it. Agree did not like JR or Ethan Hawke. Mahershala Ali and Kevin Bacon were great.

Both nervewracking, preachy and jumped around, and I didn't come away with deep introspection. Surprised the Obama's backed this. Still some cool visuals, like the tanker, Tesla cars and that bit at the end.

+100 Had to FF through most of it b/c Julia Roberts is unwatchable. She has been in a lot of stinkers lately.
