| I thought the book was great, so I might watch it. |
|
OP here. I watched it. I got over the dumb stuff and it was fine because I kind of enjoy seeing how "grasshoppers" behave when summer is over and they haven't prepared for winter.
I'm definitely not going to buy the book because the movie was badly written and the dialogue is often cringey fake as hell. And the pointless lies & pointless moments of characters omitting details and truths from each other to keep "tension" and "drama" going. The best actress in this whole thing is the random Spanish lady, who truly scared the shit out of me and made me feel something. The actress who plays the little daughter is good too - she has a wise little witch face. |
| I love dystopian movies and books, so I was looking forward to this one - lots of mixed reviews! |
| Don’t waste your 2 hrs and 18 minutes |
I turned it off after the intro scene. I couldn’t believe how bad the writing was. Her whole monologue - nobody talks like that. |
| awful ending. It wasnt worth the time at all. I am adding on the don't watch category |
| I read the book and didn’t mind it. Haven’t watched the movie yet, but I was annoyed to see that they made Mahershala Ali’s character come to the door with his daughter, not wife. In the book, both were in their 60s, if I remember. Ok, make them both Ali’s age, I guess that’s fine. Instead, they replace her with a 20 year old. Middle aged Julia Roberts gets to be in the film, but they needed to rewrite the older black lady. Got it. |
| What were the animals trying to tell them? |
| It was bad. |
Her acting has become so mannered. |
I don't enjoy her acting the way I used to, but I must say I so appreciate that she's resisted the pressure to mess with her face. |
Ooooh, that is irritating. And explains why that storyline was clunky. |
|
Just watched this movie. What is up with the ending???? I kept saying "that's it??" I need to have an ending! So I am making one up in my mind.
They all find their way to the bunker and invite Kevin Bacon and ride out the war. |
|
I actually liked the ending because they’re all just on the brink of disaster. Like George was saying in his last monologue. Are you with me because this is all about to go to shit? You can see the pieces for disaster fall into place. The kid with radiation sickness will probably die. There’s going to be some adultery for sure. And then whoever survives that will eventually go to war with Kevin Bacon for the supplies.
Does the book end the same way? |
Everyone was so annoying but the little girl, so I decided that according to my head canon, they all die at the hands of random new militia. Eventually Kevin Bacon visits the bunker to say hi and drop off some books for the little girl. The little girl and Kevin Bacon's family become secret neighbors in the new world. |
