great for teachers union but not for parents

I'm a parent and I think it's fantastic!

I’m a teacher and I woke up wanting more than ever to quit my job and move from this area. I’ve already put my kid in private school.

I say this as a parent, but screw the parents. Some parents need to stay in their lane.

A post that says nothing. Parents need to get out of what lane exactly? They are not running the school board now or before.

We are far outnumbered here.

I just hope there are a few more moderate opinions represented on the new board.

They are more moderate. And Rs lost bc they have gone off the deep end.

Yeah. I am far left of Moon and he still got my vote.

Seriously- the democrats don’t seem to embrace crazy as much as the trolls here think.

I voted for a mix of Republicans and Democrats. I really wanted to vote R for my district, but the R candidate was nuts. I'm hoping people like Moon bring back moderate views.

We'll do the best we can to support our kids's education by providing them with as much supplemental education as we can. Sadly, we can't afford "private" as we're trying to save for four college educations, nor can we move as our jobs are based in Fairfax Mk. We'll survive, but it would be nice to see the schools start focus on educating again instead of spending money on wasteful renaming projects, consultants, etc.

^!My thoughts exactly. Im liberal BUT I just don’t like the trajectory our schools are going. HOW can we change that?

Lol You should have voted differently yesterday. That was your chance.

DP. Do you seriously think Republicans would have focused on education? I didn’t get the impression that they would care about getting all kids the education they need. They made me feel that they would spend all of their time focusing on how to not support LGBTQ+ kids, take away support for immigrant kids, and make sure no one learns about history that isn’t white American.

Because you want to think that. Deep down its about you feeling "moral" about your vote rather than actually thinking about what would happen. Any intelligent person would understand that one or two people would have no influence on these items in the same way a couple of democrats on a republican board might not be able to have much influence on these same topics. Zero Republicans got elected. Zero. The vote was to try to stop all the changes which Fairfax I guess decided they were just fine with.

If you want an alternate voice on the SB then scrape up someone normal next time.

Maybe FCPS doesn’t need as much change as you think it does.

These are the grouos thst have done the worst under democratic leadership. In the same way the Republicans hurt their base by killing them off in Covid, the democrats have no clue how to actually support the people they say they do. What they are doing is actually treating these groups like victims which ends up sinking them more than any republican opinion.

What were the R plans to support groups who are struggling in school? Economically disadvantaged, SPED, English learners?

Cannot believe people voted Frisch and Meren back in. Awful.

I’m glad we got Moon and McElveen.

I am a moderate, keep the right wing nut jobs away from the ballot and I might vote for a moderate R. Run people more concerned about a kids pronouns, banning books, and the like and I am not voting for them.

This isn’t hard. Run on reasonable changes and I’ll listen. Run on MAGA talking points and I am not voting for you.

Don't worry. The democratic board will make sure there is change. That's their main purpose in life.

I'm a parent of a 5th grader. I think lower class sizes, better compensation for teachers (resulting in more successful recruitment and retention of good teachers), better working conditions and benefits for teachers, and more reasonable workloads for teachers are all very good for my child. You don't get great schools by treating teachers like garbage.

Bottom line republicans are not fit to sit on school boards

Keep your giddammed religion out of our schools

We live in the US we are not a Christian nation you have the right to freedom of religion but you do not have the right to choose for mepmy children.

And Republican school board members should have no ties to moms 4 liberty or Maga who are clearly uneducated running around trying to put librarians in jail.

Straight Dem. I will not vote for another Republican for any reason. J6 and Roe were too much.

This.

Until the Republican party as a whole comes to its senses, they are never going to win among an educated population.

They got bold and started saying the quiet part out loud. These are not new opinions. I hope they keep being honest about who they really are. There are no senses to "return" to.

You think your child is in a great school then and no change needed. Republicans have run nothing in the Fairfax schools for decades. It has always been a democrat majority by a long shot.

I want exactly what the 5th grade parent wants, and Rs are not offering it. If Rs drop the culture war BS and become the party of small classes and excellent teachers, they'll have a shot at my vote. There's nothing in their platform right now that's pro education.

This.

And here is something I also believe -- the amount of nonsense posting on DCUM made me MORE likely to support democrats, not less. The board went to high hell over the past year.
