I've seen some dumb stuff posted on DCUM, but this one earns high ranks.

Do you people read what you post before you click submit? Try it. Maybe read it out loud to yourself first.

So so so dumb; everyone knows atheists would not put themselves in personal danger volunteering in a dangerous war zone.

You REALLY need to get over your obsession with athiests.

You REALLY need to get over your obsession with Christianity.

You REALLY need to get over your obsession with people who pray. It’s their right, it hurts no one, and it’s literally none of your business. People are allowed to pray in public and talk about their faith, in America. It’s a cherished, hard fought, hard won freedom to do so. It’s a right and privilege to do so that we all are grateful to have.

Of course its their right. But we are still allowed to think they are not very smart for thinking that Jesus personally helped with that interception. And yes, some of them actually believe this.

DP. So you started a thread to say that some Christians, who were just minding their own business, aren’t very smart?

Okaaayyyyy… I’m with pp, you need to get over your obsessions and get a life.

It’s not a matter of intelligence to have and acknowledge religious beliefs; it’s a matter of faith.

This man is a professional athlete? It’s his job to win as many professional games as possible to support himself and his family? He has worked very hard physically and works very hard during the game to do his best to work with his team mates to win? And he’s religious, and saying thanks to the higher being he has faith in?

That’s faithfulness and gratitude, not intelligence.

Now, sitting on your behind and criticizing him- that’s what shows a lack of intelligence. Also a lack of anything worthwhile to do otherwise to add something good to the world for yourself or someone else.

Oh no, are you ok? Can you get to a therapist to discuss this?

What denomination do you define as “loosely Christian?”

Did the loose Christians who raised you teach you to respect other people’s beliefs, or did they say: trash everyone who doesn’t think like you, because obviously they are WRONG!!!

Do you think none of the people who choose to join the military are athiests?

The Air Force Academy is heavily evangelical because everyone knows Jesus was a supporter of strategic bombing campaigns

This post is a great example of the confusion that ensues when you hate religion: blaming “evangelicals” and Jesus for bombing campaigns, when it’s really the politicians in DC and the civilians in the Department of Defense choosing who and when and where to bomb. And pp’s tax dollars support those bombs and pay for the destruction of people who are being bombed, but they blame the evangelicals and Jesus.

You know what…this thread may be on to something.

Where are the atheist athletes that compete and win in professional sports? It does seem like many, many, the high level, championship athletes do praise God and give Him credit and thank Him when they perform well or win, or their body heals, or they have the strength to train, finish a game, whatever.

Many really good athletes feel they were given tremendous physical gifts by God.

Atheists dislike anything they can’t understand, and don’t like athletes who are exceptionally talented acknowledging publicly that they attribute their success from God.

People might see a successful athlete acknowledging God and/or Jesus and think wow, if that guy believes in God, God might be real.

Nobody is saying atheists can’t be successful athletes, but I don’t see a lot of successful, famous, or well known atheists in the sporting world, the Olympics, etc. I am sure their are some, but the majority believe in God.

That post was written by a troll who gave maybe two seconds to the content of her post, because all she wants is piss people off to get them to respond.

The Air Force Academy is a school for people to be trained to be officers in the Air Force.

How does AFA differ from a traditional college?
We provide a world class education, while also developing cadets through military, athletic, and character outcomes in a deliberate 47 month plan. An Academy education is valued at more than $416,000, yet it's offered no financial cost to our cadets or their families. In return a cadet commits to serve as an officer in the Air Force. From the moment they arrive, cadets are challenged academically, militarily, physically, and their character is deliberately developed.

The Air Force Academy is not deciding who our military “bombs.”

If you like misinformation and ignorance, keep posting stuff that isn’t even factual and then stomp your feet when corrected.

Did you dislocate a shoulder making so many sweeping generalizations in a single post?

Can you at least give a cite for your claim that a majority of successful athletes believe in God?

Op and the other posters already did, they are seriously annoyed that people who play “sportsball” believe God helped them make a basket or interception.

Want a shorter layover time for your flight? He delivered that as well. Want a sunny day for your bridal shower? yes...it was done just for you.

I find it arrogant and self centered and not a healthy way to go through life for multiple reasons.

Atheist here. I always took the thanking Jesus or pointing at the sky thing to be weird. Like why would Jesus care if you won or lost that game?

The people on here saying it’s a sign of humility make more sense. An acknowledgment that you didn’t get where you are by yourself is lovely (if that is what this is shorthand for).

But I have known people like you describe. Who will look at random chance based things and attribute to God. In a way that suggests they were somehow more worthy. It’s annoying.

It happened just this morning. My neighbor and I were raking our leaves, as was a neighbor three houses down. We all got more or less done and then the wind picked up and blew leaves onto the third neighbor’s lawn. The person I was chatting with said “Jesus was my copilot this morning.” I guess Jesus was my copilot too even though I am not Christian by that logic.

Really? They have actual data to show that a majority of successful athletes believe in God? Can you point out where they cited their data?

Nobody has cited any data. However, only successful athletes get on tv, are interviewed by the media, are shown pointing to the sky in a way of acknowledging God. Apparently the people posting on this thread see and hear successful and well known athletes thanking God and were so moved to create a thread about it, because they don’t understand it and think athletes are very very stupid for crediting God or Jesus for athletic victories.

Do you think the people posting on this thread are being dramatic? I don’t. I actually think they are correct. I watch a fair amount of all kinds of sporting events on tv, and attend a good amount in person. I have personally witnessed a bunch of professional athletes crediting God for their abilities and victories. Whenever a player is inducted into a a Hall of Fame (in any sport) they usually (probably 99.9% of the time) credit and give thanks to God. In the last superbowl, both qbs were strong Christians. I think the person who
started the thread is probably sick of hearing athletes praise God because a lot of them do.

So yeah, many high level, professional athletes are at least Christian to the extent they acknowledge God is their creator, endowed them with physical gifts, and gave them strength and courage to compete against other gifted athletes.

Are there a bunch of atheists who are professional athletes the media is discriminating against and refusing to give airtime to? I said before of course not everyone is religious, def some atheist athletes, but I have never personally seen any.

I mean, most athletes aren’t known for their giant intellect. Of course they’re simpler thinkers and thus gullible in terms of believing stories about magical Jesus and how he was a zombie.
