Atheist here.  I always took the thanking Jesus or pointing at the sky thing to be weird. Like why would Jesus care if you won or lost that game?

The people on here saying it’s a sign of humility make more sense.  An acknowledgment that you didn’t get where you are by yourself is lovely (if that is what this is shorthand for).

But I have known people like you describe.  Who will look at random chance based things and attribute to God.  In a way that suggests they were somehow more worthy.  It’s annoying.

It happened just this morning.  My neighbor and I were raking our leaves, as was a neighbor three houses down.  We all got more or less done and then the wind picked up and blew leaves onto the third neighbor’s lawn.  The person I was chatting with said “Jesus was my copilot this morning.”   I guess Jesus was my copilot too even though I am not Christian by that logic. [/quote]
