Do Christmas displays make you uncomfortable?

I don’t see how a Christmas display harms anyone. Nobody has to celebrate Christmas because they see a Santa or any of the symbols of Christmas.

I have never heard of a neighborhood brawl because a homeowner didn’t display lights or a sleigh or put up a tree in their home.

Someone upthread said they are ok with Christmas decor as long as nobody got in their face and demanded they display Christmas symbols. Is that something that happens? People get in a neighbor’s face and try to bully them verbally or physically to display Christmas lights and other stuff? That really seems like a made up scenario.

The opposite occurs- people said on this thread that a nativity displayed at a neighborhood home makes them uncomfortable, but they didn’t explain why is made them uncomfortable.

And the poinsetta thing is ridiculous. How could a plant hurt anyone? I think they are beautiful.

Why disturbing?

Like they’re an extremist.

A big, tacky inflatable Santa is extremist? Now I've heard it all. Calm down, pp.

I love Christmas displays and I don't even celebrate it.

They should not be in public buildings and yes, when I worked at some government jobs, it made me uncomfortable, especially when only one religion was represented. In stores, private homes, not at all. Love Christmas lights in homes but I'd never put them up. But, I'm not Christian.

What exactly made you uncomfortable? A christmas tree? Why?

As long as displays of someone’s religion are inside of their homes or houses of worship we should permit them. However, if the displays are outside in public I really think they are problematic and should be regulated.

Weird question. I think it's weird when people do things like nativity scenes when Jesus wasn't born in December or winter, but the secular stuff like lights and trees? Why on earth would that make anyone uncomfortable?

Nope, not uncomfortable. The displays make winter more bearable.

Is Fox news doing research for their annual "War on Christmas?"

There’s no war on Christmas. Christians are free to do it inside their personal homes and churches.

Love ALL holiday decor- every holiday of the year but especially Christmas. We go all out for every holiday inside our home- mantle and table decor for Valentine, St. Pats, Easter, July 4th. FWIW, we recognize other holidays, usually with just a simple dinner with some minimal place settings- Chinese NY, Diwali, Hanukah.
We are Catholic but I like how many aspect of Christmas have become secular.

I don’t like nativity scenes but I like the general decor of lights and trees and that jazz.

I'm sorry you don't understand why. Clearly cultural competence is not your strong suit.
