Do Christmas displays make you uncomfortable?

Anonymous
Christmas is based on pagan traditions, so no they do not make me uncomfortable at all.

Why disturbing?

No, I love them in neighborhoods, don't mind them in businesses, and chuckle to myself when I see them in public spaces that supposedly have separation of church and state but we all know that's not really true. But whatever. They're pretty, and as long as no one gets in my face about not having them at my house (not Christian), I'm cool.

And I adore traditional Christmas music - of the hymn and Handel's Messiah type, not the 50s schlocky songs. Bring it on. But not until the day after Thanksgiving, please.

I like all displays and if someone wants to put a nativity scene in their lawn it’s their choice and doesn’t disturb me.

I actually love the little manger and baby Jesus and the animals. The Mennonites near me put on an entire Nativity story complete with a town populated with people of the time trading in a market. It’s fantastic. They even make the market smell like spices and have tons of live animals.

A church or private home? Sure.

Are you talking about nativity scenes or Christmas trees and stockings and elves and reindeer?

It’s all Christmas related. So both. A nativity scene is not associated with anything other than Christmas.

So no Christmas displays anywhere but a private home or church? You haven’t clarified if you mean a nativity scene or things like tree or stockings or a sleigh and reindeer. Do both types of decorations bother you?

Yes to both your questions.

No. I find them comforting, because I grew up with them, even though I am not religious.

I love church bells. I love the cantor in synagogues. I love the muezzin's call to prayer.

I don't find any of this offensive.

So Christmas displays make you uncomfortable, even Santa and reindeer and Christmas trees and lights, and definitely a nativity scene.

And you are uncomfortable if a business has a Christmas display, even if it’s lights and stockings for employees?

So you are uncomfortable with people displaying Christmas decorations on their private property?

Just Christmas?

What about a large menorah in the window of a store or on someone’s front lawn?

Same things as I do on Sundays - work out, Netflix, read, do laundry, cook, go for a walk, etc.

Are you a JW? They don’t celebrate Christmas. I don’t think they like lights and decorations either.

I’m a culturally Catholic agnostic, and I love Christmas displays 🎄
