The quarterback is black. She doesn't date black guys.

The quarterback is married, so is not available for dating.

Any football player is a bad catch.

It doesn’t matter whether you like her music. She deserves respect for using her fame to speak out on the right side of history in Tennessee, even though it draws threats from MAGA idiots.

I am 41 year old man, and can't sing a song she sings. she not that famous.

She is probably the most famous celebrity (and maybe person) on the planet over the last year.

I think what he was trying to saying is he hasn’t listened to any new music in the last 15 years, and doesn’t follow any concert news.

Or maybe he's a fan of indie music, or jazz, or classical. I'm a 56 yo male with a voracious appetite for new music, primarily indie rock/jazz/soul, and I wouldn't know a TS song if I didn't have a teenage daughter.

My post was satirical. Some men have a habit of hearing a woman speak, then mansplaining what he thinks she meant to a group of people, possibly taking her ideas as his own.

Hilariously this actually happened to Taylor Swift. Her album 1989 was covered in its entirety by Ryan Adams, and all of the critics gushed about his brilliance and how amazing it was that he could transform her music into something worthy. It just needed his perspective. Because of course it did! Go back and read some articles. It’s a trip.

Pitchfork didn’t like it but dang, other people really did: https://www.metacritic.com/music/1989/ryan-adams

(It’s worth mentioning that Ryan Adams’ ex girlfriends/wives have accused him of abuse.)

No, they said he took something great and added something new by changing the tone from upbeat pop to a more melancholy tone.

The same was said when Johnny Cash covered NIN's Hurt.

do you know anything about American football? ever watch the Grammys? ever have an appetite to venture beyond your comfort zone, musically?
In the end, the fact is you do know TS, so what's your point?

I don't watch football or the Grammy's. How do you feel about the nrw albums by Noname, Caroline Polachek, or Ezra Collective?

do you ever read any news or headlines? It doesn't matter how I feel about your favorites.

Whatever, you do know TS, so what are you trying to say? Lots of us would agree that she's not the very best ever singer, musician or beauty, but, no matter, we've all heard of TS. And so have you.

I never said I wouldn't have heard of her. I said I wouldn't be able to name a Taylor Swift song, much less sing one, if I didn't have a teenage daughter. As it is, I can only name a few of them. She's very popular, but I don't pick what I like based on popularity.

And for the record, I'm left leaning and have never voted for a Republican in any election.

then you surely agree that MAGA should not be coming after her for basically no reason at all, calling her dumb and homely and talentless?
yet, you come here in what seems like a defense of those anti TS
again, what is your point? all this because you can't sing one of her songs? ok . . . .

I was defending the guy who was unfamiliar with her and was told her must not have listened to any new music in 15 years.

In reality, it's quite likely that many Taylor Swift fans don't really follow new music, they follow new Taylor Swift music. Or only follow the few pop artists of her magnitude.

I also don't think she's that attractive, but looks have nothing to do with ability to make great music (though she's miles more attractive than the guy who made the comment). Look at Lucinda Williams or Jeff Tweedy.

But the issue with the PP is that, according to him, since he doesn’t know her music “she not that famous”.

A 69 is pretty average for an album on Metacritic. 80 or above means the critics really like it.

Yeahhhh but…
…that was one song covered by an artistic genius. Who the hell is Ryan Adams? A no one who was trying to coattail on a hugely popular album by an insanely popular artist. One song covered is awesome (see also The Rolling Stones’ cover of the Temptations; Ain’t Too Proud to Beg, GNR covering Wings’ Live and Let Die, two songs so ridiculously over the top that you can smell the cheese, and Cake’s cover of Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive), a whole album is a weird, desperate flail and is mansplain adjacent in this context.

And I hope all the little Swifties of voting age get those moldy old Republicans out of office and into the dustbin of history where they belong.

Don’t take my word for it. Articles were written about it.

The Forbes article is really special. The same critic that panned TS 1989 suddenly saw its genius once RA put his spin on it. Isn’t that nice.
