Well, we don't get to decide if there will be a shutdown or the extent of any shutdown that does happen. I say it won't happen because there are multiple ways of preventing it from happening and those in congress have learned from recent shutdowns that despite all of the finger pointing at the other side of the aisle, no one comes out looking like a hero when congressional failures lead to government shutdowns.

No, the republicans certainly have not learned anything from the prior shutdowns.

Let's hope enough in congress have learned that lesson because shutdowns are stupid, silly, embarrassing, and ..... easily preventable.

Some quick fixes:
Raise the contribution cap for social security
Reverse and eliminate many of the tax cuts for the wealthy which increased our debt by trillions
Audit the DoD and every year that they can't present an auditable budget, their budget automatically gets cut by whatever the amount of unaccounted-for funds or 10%, whichever is bigger
Fix Medicare, rein in big pharma and other costs, and model it after working healthcare models from other successful nations

How do you get to terrible? Throw Administrative State enablers out of work. Choke off their paychecks and any benefits. See how we can operate WITHOUT them. Enjoy the spillover effects as those out of state enablers can’t buy houses of cars, and cut back on home improvements and dining out.

If you do a long shutdown and force back pay to be cut as part of any deal, you can drop the hammer on Biden’s economy. And his re-election, regardless of who we eventually nominate as GOP’s POTUS and VPOTUS.

A shutdown costs the US Economy a minumum of 3 billion dollars. Poof gone without a second thought. THAT is what the GOP wants, the economy to tank.
