It was astounding seeing people pissed when honor flights of geriatric WWII veterans arrived at the WWII memorial in DC after hours of driving only to learn that there were no restroom facilities available due to the shutdown. Like, what did you geniuses think was going to happen? What part of shutdown did you not understand?

We didn’t understand the pick and choose part and the malicious part

Would you rather we didn’t make TSA and VA Docs and SS check processors work? I actually would, because that would be an immediate end to the last shutdown we will ever have.

I posted this in the shutdown thread under Jobs, but it's also important here.

Well, sounds like McCarthy is getting fed up with the Freedom Caucus. And the moderates are threatening that if the FC continues to be obstructive without being constructive that they may start negotiating with the Democrats to pass a CR without the rest of the party.

Already there have been discussions among the moderates about dusting off a discharge petition Democrats filed during the debt-limit standoff earlier this year and repurposing it for a CR, or engaging in other unorthodox legislative maneuvers to get to an up-or-down vote.

Some good news that this might not come to a shutdown after all.

False promises. They all want a shutdown for red meat for their base. It will happen.

As I said, pick and choose.

Join the shutdown thread on the jobs forum. Lots of Q&A there.

No. This is terrible. Also, consider all of the contractors who will never be paid.

Instead, Republicans want to impeach Biden instead of keeping the government going.

Today on CNBC Janet Yellen said “We’ve got a good strong economy … and creating [a] situation that could cause a loss of momentum is something we don’t need.”

Well, sometimes you have to spill some milk to win elections. Of COURSE Yellen wants the economy to be strong next Fall, so that Bidet WINS!!! So by definition anyone who wants to fix this country wants the economy to be terrible.

How do you get to terrible? Throw Administrative State enablers out of work. Choke off their paychecks and any benefits. See how we can operate WITHOUT them. Enjoy the spillover effects as those out of state enablers can’t buy houses of cars, and cut back on home improvements and dining out.

If you do a long shutdown and force back pay to be cut as part of any deal, you can drop the hammer on Biden’s economy. And his re-election, regardless of who we eventually nominate as GOP’s POTUS and VPOTUS.

A shutdown costs the US Economy a minumum of 3 billion dollars. Poof gone without a second thought. THAT is what the GOP wants, the economy to tank.

Bet they find money for Ukraine and those they have given amnesty to

As they should since D’s control the Senate and WH. Want to change policy priorities? Try winning a general election.

That was written before the extremists blocked the Pentagon bill from coming to a vote yesterday. So doesn’t seem like McCarthy’s get tough act is having any impact just yet.

Agree. I think the cuts should be across the board. None of this Republican BS of trying to "minimize the pain" to try and hide the damage they are doing.

This. It’s all a show. They ALL want a shutdown. They want to tank economy and hurt Americans because they think it will hurt Biden. It’s so gross.

GOP thinks it's playing a game of chicken with the Dems.

The Dems are just watching as the GOP heads over the cliff and into the canyon. What can we do? The right has declared that passing a bill with Democratic votes will trigger McCarthy's removal, because bipartisanship is a dirty word.

Even better if they can try to win wither suppressing votes and gerrymandering their districts.

The thing is, "the House" isn't paralyzed. This is ALL on the GOP who have the majority and cannot pass anything.

Nope, this is the "Freedom caucus" playing chicken with McCarthy. The Dems have nothing to do with this. Pelosi had the same 222 vote advantage for the previous 2 years and was able to get a lot done. The Dems have never forced a shutdown of the government. That has ALWAYS happened under the GOP House leadership. It costs money and is detrimental to the national credit rating.

+1000. This has nothing to do with the dems. It’s all McCarthy and the HFC. If McCarthy would cut out the HFC and have a negotiation with the dems and the rest of his members, he could pass something with 350 votes.
