DP It’s a valid reason. |
PP with the bad UVA tour experience here Yes, I agree. We were honestly surprised. With my kid's stats, it seems like UVA is within reach, but still-a reach. We went down there expecting to be just completely blown away and impressed with how amazing UVA is. I thought my kid would LOVE it and that we'd have to talk about how necessary it would be to apply ED and work all summer on an amazing essay, and to still keep expectations low, etc. Instead we were blown away on how incompetent the student tour staff members were. Our specific tour guide wasn't our only bad experience there. Maybe ODU only puts out their very best to lead the tours, and UVA puts out their very worst? But even if that's the case, that certainly says a lot about a university. |

I was down in Charlottesville for a girls trip last fall (none of us are alums nor do we have any biases for or against school)
I was actually sad to see some of the female students heading out for parties. There was one very unfortunate young lady who was wearing a very short skirt walking uphill. I had to look away for fear of exactly what I was seeing - like, I sure hope she was wearing underwear of some sort, but the brief glimpse I caught (not by choice, obviously) made me embarrassed for her. I realize this isn’t just a UVA thing, but oof-the hoochie wear was everywhere near the Corner and Lawn. |
It is just the human body. Get over it. Why would anyone be embarrassed? |
pp with the bad UVA tour experience here. I really don't have a problem with people dressing however they want when they are on their own time, but when you are representing your school/employer then at least make some effort to look professional. Would it really be that tough to put on a pair of 4 inch shorts and a crew neck (a collared shirt and longer shorts would be even better, but I'll keep my expectations low?) |
Because some OOS schools are near mountains, oceans or offer academic opportunities not offered by instate. |
You’d be cool with your daughter walking around with her vajayjay out for the world to see? |
My main concern would be safety due to people like PP looking up her skirt and such. |
Well if you and your kid are allowing something an overweight tour guide to influence your decision then none of you is serious or smart enough for UVA anyway. So you’re doing the school a favor. Enjoy the mediocrity of ODU, the safety school for VCU. |
Your kid feels that way as a defense mechanism. Doesn’t want to get their hopes up and not get in. |
I wasn’t looking on purpose. We were just walking around after dinner and this chick was nearby. If her friends let her go out like that, they did her dirty. And clearly no one thought about the fact that it isn’t flat land there. You are really more upset that people might happen to see it by accident than by your child wandering the streets with no panties on and a skirt that doesn’t cover her ample behind? |
it still has an acceptance rate of less than 38% which is more prestigious than - UVA |
UVA’s acceptance rate is much lower than that. |
Telling that you are only addressing the overweight criticism, but say nothing about the non stop "ums" and "uhs," nor the upspeak or inappropriate clothing. Look, we didn't just show up on campus and start interacting with random people. In both cases, ODU and UVA, the school chose the dates and times they were available to lead tours. The schools chose which students they wanted to represent them to prospective students and families. The caliber of student chosen by ODU far surpassed what UVA chose. I don't know why UVA chose the way they did, but ODU made good choices. |
ODU. Lol. Ok. Go there instead of UVA. That’s a GREAT idea. |
