DP. She refused to convict violent criminals, even when the evidence was overwhelming. But you already knew that. She was removed for dereliction of duty, in accordance with the state constitution. |
Where’s the evidence of that? District Attorneys don’t convict people, by the way. Judges and juries do. |
Dp- Meh. She has a few instances of not throwing the book at minors. Those are tough calls. I’m not seeing a “pattern” . Isolated instances don’t make a “pattern”. And I don’t always disagree with the removal of prosecutors. Missouri got rid of the horrible prosecutor in St Louis, who was mostly incompetent as well as feckless. But this smacks of something else entirely. Desantis’ campaign is in the toilet and he’s trying to claw back the narrative. |
Easy to say when you're not the one who is robbed at gunpoint, assaulted, raped, shot, etc |
These don't look like tough calls to me. the juveniles are already hard core criminals. |
+1 Some posters seem to think you're not as violated, harmed, or dead if a juvenile perpetrates the crime against you. |
No one has a crystal ball. Their first offenses weren’t murder or assault ( I don’t think) . I’m not going too deep here, because I don’t really care, but the kids referenced were allowed leniency on initial gun charges. At least that’s what I got from this. Again, I don’t really care. Also, I don’t live somewhere where hoodlums roam with guns. That’s why I don’t live in Florida. That and gators. |
Proving my point politics is local When it reaches your doorstep, you’ll change |
Sure. But you can pick your location. Either way this is still a stunt to move the conversation away from us shitastic campaign. |
Armed robbery, attempted rape, etc committed by teens reflects little empathy for others, for whatever underlying reasons. It's not really that hard to predict who is going to be a repeat, violent offender. |
Well sinking them further into the system certainly guarantees that. Look I’m not particularly sympathetic to teenage criminals. But I’d need more statistics that her office was engaged in a pattern of dereliction of duty. A handful of cases doesn’t persuade me. Again, DeSantis’ campaign is a real stinker. He was supposed to the heir apparent, and instead he’s fizzled to sad puddin’ fingered troll. |
Like you did? Like hardcore tactics have been used for a long time and don’t seem to work yet Republicans still run full speed into that wall (except for Republicans convicted of crime. Those folks have already been through too much!). And again, why only fire the Democratic AGs? Are the crime stats for the Republican AGs so much better? Because it looks like - oh, gee, this scary word for fascists to hear - it looks like fascism the way Ronnie targets his political opponents, and all on the flimsiest of evidence. Of course flimsy evidence is a hallmark of Republicanism. |
PP here. Having worked with at risk kids for years, I don't disagree with you. I wish we'd pour more money for programs geared to help kids from birth to middle school. Sadly, a violent teen rarely changes course, even with interventions. For most, it's too late. |
This is going to be a tangent but I’ve always thought that this “progressive” push for restorative Justice has nothing to do with justice. We don’t have the space for this many criminals, and we don’t want to pay to rehabilitate. Not even younger offenders. But I digress… |
Yes, devastating issues often begin very early on. The first three years are called the foundational years. More encouragement is necessary to build a solid unit before having a baby. Why doesn’t every high school require a basic financial management course? |
