Draft of equity policy?

I read that as forced tolerance for the kinds of behaviors that would've gotten a student expelled 10 years ago, but will now get a restorative justice circle.

Could someone please translate this for me?

“We are going to waste money on buying training for staff on how to be more sensitive to students backgrounds, instead of spending more on salaries and hiring/retaining better teaching staff that already knows how to do this. The beatings will continue until morale improves”.

I’m liberal. I hate this school board. My local middle school apparently only had a 20% pass rate in the SOLS. Focus on that for the love of god.

They must want to do as much as possible to incentivize people to pull their kids out of FCPS at a faster rate than teachers are leaving.

I’m imagining how great FCPS could be if all of the money and energy the SB spends on social justice/equity issues was instead spent on insuring all kids have the best possible academic curriculum, supplies, and supports for teachers possible. I guess that’s just a pipe dream.

Will they honor white identity? I doubt so. Will they appreciate perspectives that differ from the school values? No.

Can't control people thoughts.

Been saying that for years. Instead of developing "programs" for equity --how about teaching the kids and preparing them for jobs.

Culturally responsive teaching.

Why do you think they have a policy of not grading homework?

"Provide differentiated distribution of resources and access to facilities based on students’ needs and driven by the elimination of predictability of outcomes."

"[T]his policy will guide the language and intent of all other policies within FCPS."

"The Chief Equity Office will design and execute an Equity plan-with an accompanying framework-to build capacity in the skills and dispositions of cultural proficiency which are necessary to create and nurture equitable educational and work environments."

"The Chief Academic Office will prioritize inclusivity, diverse representation, and the development of all students as critical thinkers and independent learners in all academic and social-emotional learning curricula, professional learning, and resources."

What kind of word salad crap is this?

It is intended to be confusing so people won't know what they are approving.

There is no homework anymore because some kids don't have parents to help or make sure they do it. Funny, but years ago homework was between students and teachers. Parents were never to be involved in the first place.

It is also more recently that parents are stepping into their kids' lives to give them every advantage possible. Science fair is a great example.

I taught at a high-SES school and at a low-SES school and the difference is obvious. Low-SES kids make popsicle stick bridges and high SES kids have their STEM parents telling them what to do and buying them GPU processors.
Anonymous
That’s right. Parents and guardians should be involved. It’s the only way to close the gap.
Anonymous
Not all parents will be involved. PP must have worked in a low SES school long ago because science fairs have been eliminated. We now have a company come in and demonstrate sciencey stuff and call it Family Science Night. It's now "pour on science".

Who still does elementary or middle school science fairs in FCPS?

Yeah, the last thing they really want is for students to appreciate all perspectives. If kids come from conservative households and share their families’ values, their views will be unwelcome, not appreciated.

If their "conservative values" include hating on trans kids, of course that will not be welcome.
