This post was a supporter, OP. They were joking - “oh, wouldn’t it be suuuuch a shame if you were disinherited/banned & forbidden from going to that amaaaaazing place ever again?” (Ie - it would not be a shame, it would be great & the perfect solution since it sucks anyway).
Geez, you didn’t need to jump down their throat, I think you read a little too quickly to realize they were on your side.

I'm not OP, but I didn't read it that way at all. There ARE people who will do things for the inheritance.

Stop jumping all over the OP. She responded appropriately to a rude post. If posters don't get your sarcasm, then you didn't write it well enough.

Tons of people got the joke. You and a small band of scolds didn't.

Scolds. Ok. That’s kind.

I’m all set, thanks! They could leave us nothing and it would be absolutely no problem. Perhaps your situation is different, but not all of us are counting on inheritances and cower at the idea of not getting one. -OP

Geez OP I was with you until this post. Wtf?

I’m with OP. How was she supposed to respond to “maybe they’ll disinherit you for your awful behavior”? A+ work here.

NP. It was very clearly sarcasm, and it should have been responded to as sarcasm.

That being said, I suspect OP was reading quickly and may be feeling a little raw about putting a story up on DCUM. (Understandably.) So I can see why she would have misread, but it was clearly a misreading.

NP. I didn't read it as sarcasm, especially with the additional posters saying things like "oh another MIL story, yawn." I really didn't read it as sarcasm. Just my two cents.

I know it's an anonymous forum and all, but I wouldn't be bragging about that if I were you. If you didn't understand that "Getting a little teary for you. Sniff." was sarcasm, I'm not sure what to say. And you don't have the (very charitable) excuse that the PP suggested, that the OP was a little raw.

Your joke sucked, and didn’t land. Just walk it off, friend. No charity required

Her post was fine, sorry you don’t get sarcasm. OP’s response was real Tuesday-ish too, IYKWIM

Dig in. It still wasn’t funny. I do get sarcasm. I also know most people aren’t very good at it, and it is not generally used well. that was def a swing and a miss. It read critical. You might want to practice more.

NP. It was so very obviously sarcastic…I’m confused how anyone could read it otherwise.

+1 I didn’t write the sarcastic post and I’m no genius, but I immediately recognized the sarcasm.

Same. It was very well done!

Sarcasm, to rend or tear. Mocking scorn. The entire concept of sarcasm is to harm. Hilarious!

I can see that you are apparently sensitive about not recognizing the joke in the first place, but the sarcastic poster *was on OP’s side*. It was not “mocking scorn”, ffs.

My uncle gets his fields mowed and other people pay for the hay bales. Maybe that's what your inlaws should do. He seeds in different grasses so that they pay him more even.

Good idea!

DP. I have been on DCUM a long time and thought it was written by one of our scolds who always warns people about being disinherited if they don't go along with all family requests. So I think OP's reaction was understandable.

It was me. I wrote the post.

I am appropriately chastised for my inappropriate use of sarcasm and very much hope that the in-laws do NOT cut off OP and her DH. I hope they continue to send her ragey texts suggesting that she’s a lazy freeloader for taking advantage of their years of “generosity” in letting her come work their land on “vacation.”

Oh, look. Another touchy, humorless grump.

Poorly done sarcasm, actually.

It was not poorly done. Some people didn’t interpret it accurately because they’re really sensitive about family conflicts and mentioning “disinheriting” set off alarm bells. Others missed the sarcasm because the sheer volume of nasty digs people make anonymously on dcum has conditioned them to anticipate the worst from fellow posters. Now they’re digging in because nobody likes to be the one who wasn’t in on the joke.

Good for you, OP, and please tell us more! Did ILs purchase this land? For what purpose? Are they planning to build there eventually? What didn't they like about the trees they cut down? My ILs also cut down some mature trees for no reason, but just from their regular home.

Anonymous wrote:Why can't your kids mow the lawn? Presumably, they're old enough to drive the lawn mower .

Or at least your dh can drive around the mower.

fwiw, i find lawn mowing instantaneously gratifying (abd therapuetic).

And a riding mower to boot!

I wouldn't assume it's like mowing your backyard. If this is wild and WV, there are probably large rocks and grades that aren't that easy to mow. Some of you have no clue about this kind of land. It probably would not be safe for kids to mow. I agree with the pp. Why don't you go help?

NB: Hey everyone, I think that might just be sarcasm again. FYI.
