Seriously... what is wrong with Maryland drivers? Is it a lawless state?

Anonymous
While MD had the reputation for being the worst in years past, the pandemic seems to have flipped the narrative. Many studies post-pandemic show that Virginia now has much worse drivers than Maryland.

Virginia #9. MD not in top 10 of worst states
9. Virginia
Share of drivers reporting a prior incident: 22.36%

Traffic deaths per 100 million vehicle miles driven: 0.97 (13% less than the national average)

When people say Virginia is for lovers, they may mean lovers of evading traffic laws. 22.36% of Virginia motorists have an at-fault citation on their driving record, which is 25% higher than the national average. Such behavior, however, has not caused higher rates of traffic fatalities, as Virginia has 13% fewer fatalities per 100 million miles driven than the U.S. as a whole.

A new national study by Forbes Advisor ranks Virginia No. 4 for having the most confrontational drivers — West Virginia’s drivers rank even worse at No. 3. Maryland comes in at No. 19. The District of Columbia wasn’t included in the study.

Of those polled, more than half in Virginia said they’ve been involved in an incident where the other driver got out of their vehicle to yell at or fight them. Ninety percent have had another driver curse at them, insult them, or make threats.

Maryland drivers reported 14% of drivers have had another driver exit their vehicle to yell at or fight them. Thirteen-percent said they experienced road rage very often.

Virginia #4, MD not in the top 10

Best and Worst Drivers by State (2023)
Which 10 states have the worst drivers?
The top 10 worst drivers by state have been identified based on at-fault incidents listed on auto insurance applications as well as traffic fatality rates from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. At-fault incidents may include accidents, DUIs/DWIs, speeding, reckless driving, and more. With that being said, here are the states with the worst drivers:

[...]

4. Virginia
In Virginia, drivers receive traffic citations 20% more frequently than the national average. In addition, 27% of drivers have an at-fault incident listed on their auto insurance policies. Virginia has 9.7 traffic fatalities per 100,000 people. However, it came in first for the rudest drivers in the country.

Maryland has substantially more Black drivers than northern Virginia. And when dcums are complaining about “Maryland drivers” - as I’ve seen first hand in carpool - they are ALWAYS talking about aggressive driving by a driver with MD tags who just happen to coincidentally be Black. 100% of the time.

You’re not hiding your racism, dcum. We see right through it.

You keep saying this in every post or comment about Maryland drivers, but it's so absurd. Oh, you had once carpool experience with people who were racist, so that means everyone who points out the insanity of MD drvers insane? You sound unhinged. I'm mixed, and most of the MD drivers I see behaving recklessly seem to be white, fyi. It's something about the state - it has nothing to do with their skin color.

Maryland has more Black drivers than northern Virginia. This isn’t open to debate - it’s a fact.

People ticketed for aggressive driving are most often younger males. In Maryland there is a greater likelihood that younger male will be Black. And it’s reasonable to predict that based on statistics, many of the aggressive drivers in Maryland are young Black males.

So yes, when you’re criticizing bad Maryland drivers, you’re most likely criticizing young Black male drivers.

Just acknowledge your racism and accept it.

DC has more black drivers than the state of MD does. Do you have a twisted-logic way to say that if I live in DC and think MD drivers I see in DC are bad that must mean I am racist? Without knowing anything about the actual racial makeup of the bad drivers that I see?

Many years ago I was driving at night got side swiped hard on my right side by a hit and run driver.

I chased him like two miles pulled up his left side he gave me look and I turned wheel sharp right and plowed into him on his drivers side and took off.

Only time I felt happy after getting hit. My car was a piece of crap. But really only way to fix bad driving

I live in Maryland and was driving in DC over the weekend and people were making U-turns mid street against on-coming traffic. I've never seen anyone do something so brazenly dangerous in Maryland.

Maryland, DC, and NOVA driver are all equally bad.

Maryland doesn't enforce laws that are below felonies and northern Virginia is getting the same way

Maryland drivers white black or green all suck as well as the shitty roads. I almost get side swiped daily. People suck.

+100, thank you for pointing this out. It probably is passive aggressiveness from a non-DMV person. This is normal driving for this area, I was shocked when I moved to Colorado and the people put on a signal, waved to get over and transitioned over. Every area is culturally different. I'm the Carolinas & Georgia people use a right signal to turn left, very maddening. But OP, you are using coded language.

You’re not hiding your racism, dcum. We see right through it.

MD has bad drivers, and VA has mean, aggressive drivers.

DC, MD and VA are all currently lawless. I watch people run red lights 4-6 cars each cycle, speed, tail gate, drive aggressively all.day.long and no one is getting pulled over.
Anonymous
MD is so lawless that it has so many ridiculous laws, according to right wingers.

We were thinking of taking kids to new great wolf lodge up there but decided to go the Williamsburg one to avoid that part of Maryland.

Enjoy going 60 in the left lane past the people going 58 in the right lane for hours on I-64!
