Hopefully, they fund classroom teacher raises by cutting CO bloat. |
I have no doubt there are parents that can do better, but having no discipline in the schools is a huge problem. There is only so much parenting can fix when they are sending their kids into that environment. |
|
These are legit concerns about kids (and parents') behavior.
However none of that is on the county council, and is also not a compensation issue. |
Actually it is. They oversee MCPS and have the final say. |
Typical MoCo parent response. |
The CC did not deny teachers a pay raise. They didn’t sign off on the full tax hike. Teachers can and will still get a pay rise. MCPS wants to give teachers a raise, and Maryland Blueprint requires that starting salaries increase to 60k. Can we please stop spreading this incorrect information. That’s one of the biggest problem with politics, lack of truth and context. |
Actually the BOE oversees MCPS. |
But we need the CO bloat to help hire consultants to do the jobs that CO employees are supposed to do. |
Actually PUBLIC SCHOOLS Montgomery County Public Schools is governed by the County Board of Education (Code Education Article, secs. 4-101 through 4-126). In addition, through the review and approval of the annual operating and capital budgets, Montgomery County government exercises authority over the County Public Schools. Moreover, through the establishment and monitoring of various financial and academic policies and regulations, the State Department of Education also has considerable oversight of county public schools. Indeed, under Maryland law, the State Department of Education works with county public schools to comply with requirements and mandates of federal law. In Montgomery County are 209 schools: 25 high schools, 40 middle schools, and 135 elementary schools, as well as a career and technology academy, and eight special schools. In Fiscal Year 2021, some 158,231 students were enrolled in the County's public schools. https://msa.maryland.gov/msa/mdmanual/36loc/mo/html/functions/moeducation.html |
Threatening a teacher with a illegal firearm would fall under the heading of Police MUST do their jobs. |
I thought we voted to require the CC to be unanimous to raise taxes. How can they just ignore the laws when they feel its inconvenient? |
Please call the state then. Call the chief at MCPD. The police won't do anything. Stop arguing what are all you people trying to prove? WE ARE IN THE SCHOOL BUILDING AND KNOW MORE THAN YOU. PARENT YOUR KIDS then they won't threaten us!! Until then, no one at MCPS can change the law. |
Yeah, but stuff like that only goes so far. Its like the teachers that post selfies of themselves at the golf course on teacher work days. Some people just arent self aware. At all |
Dang. Who was it? I was paying close attention to all that and dont remember that |
This. It's why someone posted the pay tables yesterday. It's fine to say they deserve a raise. They probably do. But the narrative is that they are drastically underpaid, when they make more than most Montgomery county residents. |
