SAT<1200, did not submit

Applied ED and accepted

And seriously hooked or didn’t happen or happened years ago

Honest truth - W&M Class of 2025. Central Virginia resident. Mixed race (White / Asian). Good but not spectacular extracurriculars. Parents went to Ivies.

What does “parents went to ivies” have to do with anything?

(Do you tag that on to the end of all your communications??)

I assume they’re pointing out that their unhooked (except maybe location) kid is far from first gen but still got in.

Well, that makes a huge difference. There are counties in central and SW and SE Virginia that don't send a single student to either UVA or W&M because not one applies who is qualified! So, yes, majorly hooked!

2. APs, honors, IB?

3. Mixed race notation probably helped bc it was ambiguous.

4. 100% the location helped.

- 1&2. Good eye - I miscounted.
Freshman year: 6A, 2B (4 honors classes)
Sophomore: 4A, 5B (4 honors classes, 1AP class) - extra class driver's ed
Junior: 7A, 1B (4 honors, 3 AP)

- 3. Don't know if White/Asian mix hurt or helped - can't imagine it helped much.

- 4. Location is Charlottesville area - probably 10-20 kids from the area are in the W&M class of 2025 - many more got accepted. Being male helped, and pandemic probably helped b/c teachers graded really easy his junior year.

"Things to consider before committing to William & Mary | Advice from a current student"

Interesting take from a current sophomore:

If W&M class sizes continue to expand, and the strong undergraduate teaching focus becomes more diminished, the admissions criteria will become less stringent and exacting.

I feel like this was a little overly dramatic lol. Class sizes may have increased but they're increasing at basically all of the major colleges, and we all know yield chaos has caused over enrollment at most major schools. And the acceptance rate is going down despite that so if anything it's getting harder to get in. And she kinda contradicts herself by saying she wants smaller classes but then gets upset that the school is smaller as if those don't typically go hand in hand.

**message got cut off

And the video just continues to be contradictory

She complains about alumni donating money out of their own free will to athletics instead of offering it to improve dorms (weird complaint but whatever)

But then she complains about the school closing down dorms to build new dorms to replace and renovate the bad ones. There's a lack of free space to build on campus so this has to happen.

And she complains about a couple academic buildings being bad but then goes on a whole rant about the science building being expanded (necessary to eventually be able to replace these buildings). I don't really understand the logic of all of this...

Why are you two even giving any credence to a video posted by one sophomore?

I mean I would generally think a current student's opinion is a good look into a college. But there seems to just be a lot of contradictory complaints in this video lol

Construction/renovations have to happen st some point. Some kids can handle this fact better than others.

Class size for the class of 2027 has not expanded as feared by thi
s student.

Yes! Small classes, but no familiar faces in the library please. My favorite of her complaints.

I wish people would respond with whether they are in or out of state (we are OOS).

Yup! Like does she think there are a bunch of big schools with an endless number of professors to enable small class sizes?
