What’s your summer sandal that goes with everything?

Also, hate to break this to you, but if you have great legs and a nice tan, Birkenstocks look cute, and if you have pasty thunder thighs, those Valentions won't save you.

While I agree that birks are fashionable in the right circumstances, I’d be willing to hazard a guess that the people posting them on THIS forum are not wearing them in a fashionable way. The other posts were keens and similar hiking shoes. I think the people posting the birks were offering them in a similar way as the keens.

Maybe, maybe not. The people freaking out about Birkenstocks and applauding some of these other options are weirdly unaware of how on trend Birkenstocks are. I’m not arguing in favor of those ugly Keens (though to be fair, the person who posted them wasn’t arguing they were fashionable either), but even Tevas and other sports sandals are on trend right now, a continuation of the broader athleisure/norm core trends. Along with comfortable white sneakers, as a PP noted.

I know a lot of very fashionable people, including people who work in fashion, and most of them are wearing sneakers, Birkenstocks, sports sandals right now. Sometimes mules or a huarache sandal. The delicate sandals with 2-3 inch heels people are posting in here? Those are for occasional events, not every day. No one is picking their kids up in heels right now. Maybe a low wedge, but it will look fussy next to everyone else’s Vejas and Birks.

What she said.

Are these totally flat or do they have a slight wedge?

They have the teeniest heel. Once you break them in they mold to your feet. Very comfy.

I like these. I had a pair as a child and loved them.

I am the one person in the world who finds Birkenstocks uncomfortable, but I love the Gizehs if only I could wear them! I don't think there are one pair of sandals that go with everything. I'm a big fan of simple slides, though, because even if they're not fashionable and in style, they're not offensive and nobody would laugh at me for wearing them.

I wore huaraches all through college, and they were note comfortable, but I sure did love them!

They don’t even look cute on my 100 lb 18 year old but keep fooling yourself.

I agree they can look cute if you have nice legs.

No.

To the people posting stuff like keens …. Are you being serious? Do you think these go with everything? Like you would wear these to brunch with friends, shopping, summer party in a friends backyard?

I would like to know as well! These keep getting posted on sandal threads and I have very little fashion sense and these are hideous.

Maybe it's just the lifestyle? Like for me, I'm more likely to spend a Saturday morning hiking than at brunch; shopping is a necessary evil and not something to dress up for; summer backyard parties usually involve a campfire, beer, and lawn chairs. Keens would be fine at any of these.

FWIW here's my pair: https://www.dsw.com/en/us/product/baretraps-samina-gladiator-sandal/524996?activeColor=001&cm_mmc=CSE-_-GPS-_-G_LIA_Shopping_Sandals-_-LIA_Sandals&cadevice=m&gclid=Cj0KCQjwi46iBhDyARIsAE3nVrYj2FmUXxjZz9e-3rqVFftLY5axldoRWL9p3NF-UGUBpBDysSmGQJ8aArj4EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Don't be so sensitive. We know you don't handle criticism well.

DP - actually, it’s invariably the people who accuse others of being “so sensitive” who can’t take criticism.

I hate the mules people have posted. They look so dated.

I went on a year long sabbatical in Europe and walked miles and miles in wedges and cute block heels that were the range in 2000.

No sneakers (unless actually running) and no ugly looking orthopedic looking sandals.

Your feet get used to it.

You were 23 years younger then. Usually when you get older, you get less willing to fIIk up your feet and back like that.

This. I’m in my 40s. I’m thrilled that supportive sneakers and Birkenstocks are “in” enough for me to be a little bit fashionable while packing practical shoes for a European vacation. I can’t believe the dumb shoes I used to wear all the time for the sake of looking cute. Embrace the orthopedics! Buy a cute sundress or a great bag instead. And remember: your shoes will not be visible in 99% of photos taken of you.

I prefer a cute sneaker over sandals. And if I had to choose most of the sandals posted here, I would prefer to go barefoot it those were my only options.
