Things change. College admissions is a totally different beast these days, There's ED, EA, SCEA, RD. I love MIT because they keep it real. No legacy preferences. Test scores required. No difference in admissions between early and regular admissions. It's an honest school. Best of the best. But for the other top twenties... eh. The smart kids don't bother with Harvard, Yale, and Stanford. Hopeless. Northwestern, Duke, Vanderbilt, Caltech, Rice, Notre Dame and the honors programs at state flagships are where it's at. Would totally take a Vandy kid over a Yale kid |
Vandy takes a lot more kids test optional than Yale does. |
True. But the ones that it takes have a higher 75th percentile than Yale’s 75th percentile. So there are definitely some very bright kids there. |
This is just ignorant. |
“There has never been an AO at any college going on record saying they do this” LMAO |
thank you for exposing this grand conspiracy of elite college admissions! Call Fox News immediately! |
yep just because more URM kids are getting in with TO doesn’t mean that AOs are saying “this kid went to a private, has money to prep, and we expect to see a score!” what it means is that Chase and Colton are now on an even playing field with the URM when they go TO |
Hmm. From Stats not your thing huh? Not sure you would be a good candidate for Yale or Vandy. |
Ah, woke liberals. You really are an adorable people. |

whoopsie! formatted above post incorrectly - meant the following comment to stand loud and proud on its own:
sorry about the even playing field - I know that’s a new concept for many |
Come on guys. Does anyone here - left or right - not think TO is a technology used to wave in URMs who otherwise would appear glaringly unqualified (especially in a legal proceeding)? |
Please do not post here. I recommend taking up meditation, yoga, or at least deep breathing to deal with your anger issues. |
I don't know your definition of average, but Vanderbilt was never average - not 20 years ago nor even 40 years ago. I have absolutely no connection to the school, and my kids go to "average" state universities, but I remember in the 1980s my BFF's cousin who was VERY SMART went to Vanderbilt (we lived in the north). It was considered a very competitive school. Now perhaps you are saying that Vanderbilt is "DCUM average" and perhaps that is true in the DCUM skewed way of looking at things. But the school itself is clearly not "average" overall. |
I personally know an indisputably elite I-banking alum who heavily recruits there, so this is dumb |
