???? My asian kid was rejected in ED2. Not sure why this comment.

Because people on this site are terrible and presumably, want someone to blame for their kids not getting in. Disgusting.

Obviously, a lot of private school parents on this thread who cannot believe schools would have the audacity to accept public school kids and heaven forbid, test-optional kids. Come on people. Be better.

Oh please it’s clearly a troll with the racist stuff.

typically not the tippy top kids, but second level - and word is that very very few got in

not sharing a huge revelation, but this school needs to be an ED approach if you want a reasonable shot with perfect app

Barely anyone got in ED either.

Most t30 schools fill their class ED. Why would you expect your kid to get in RD?

Where are you getting the idea my student applied RD? My student applied ED1 and was rejected. Not a single acceptance among 8 privates in our city ED (not DC) which is not typical. I think Vandy wasn’t looking to the private schools as much this year for admissions.

Same. Rejected ED1 here. Rigorous provide, good stats, legacy.

Anyone who got accepted?! Please provide info to let us know what they are looking for as I have a Junior who visited and is interested in applying.

My kid was accepted ED. MCPS. No hooks, very high stats (perfect SAT), lots of rigor. Not amazing ECs, but interesting and well rounded; not particularly pointy. Honestly, lots of other similarly impressive kids who did not get in. We feel lucky and my sense is that it’s all a crap shoot. But I would say definitely apply ED1 if it’s your first choice.

4% acceptance rate RD

My friend’s DD. Super wealthy, white. Attends one of the top privates on the country. Got in ED. I don’t know her stats but she has one very big EC that she is serious about and Vandy made sense for it.

will all-in acceptance rate be above or below 5%?

Above, ED was 16 percent acceptance rate

NP here. Wow I had no idea Vanderbilt was this hard to get into.

Vanderbilt's overall acceptance rate is 5.6% this year. But it's worth remembering they have 2 rounds of ED where they fill most of their class. Still incredibly difficult to get into but I imagine their applicant pool is also a bit weaker than the top ivies, Stanford, Duke, MIT. Their pool is probably more similar to Cornell, JHU, and Rice. Not a bad thing but worth remembering acceptance rate doesn't mean everything, quality of applicants also matters.

probably more comparable to Northeastern or Georgetown than the ivies in terms of applicant strength

Oh, ok. This isn't 1987. Vanderbilt is a tough school to get into. It ranks higher than Columbia, Cornell, Berkeley, Georgetown. But sure, Northeastern. Totally the same.

They are also one of the only if not the only school that formally admits their recruited athletes during RD. I’m sure they give them letters before, but they are admitted through RD and counted in those stats. Further skews the numbers — if you want Vanderbilt, you apply ED.
