Things change. College admissions is a totally different beast these days, There's ED, EA, SCEA, RD. I love MIT because they keep it real. No legacy preferences. Test scores required. No difference in admissions between early and regular admissions. It's an honest school. Best of the best.

But for the other top twenties... eh. The smart kids don't bother with Harvard, Yale, and Stanford. Hopeless. Northwestern, Duke, Vanderbilt, Caltech, Rice, Notre Dame and the honors programs at state flagships are where it's at. Would totally take a Vandy kid over a Yale kid [/quote]

True. But the ones that it takes have a higher 75th percentile than Yale’s 75th percentile.  So there are definitely some very bright kids there.[/quote]
