Craig Rice's new job

Craig Rice is absolutely at fault here. You don't get a cushy job like that without doing something to get it.

Thank goodness he withdrew. The job was an utter joke and just a way to circumvent term limits which was voted on by the people. Shame on all of them, especially county exec, for even proposing. “Special Projects” what a joke.

County exec really likes circumventing the will of the people. He's now proposing a 10 cent (10% essentially) property tax increase and using the MD state law where county council can approve it based on majority vote rather than the unanimous vote that the people enacted with the charter amendment in 2018 (in response to the 8.7% property tax increase in 2016). His rationale is that the 10% increase will go solely to MCPS, but you can't make that argument when other parts of the budget are growing too. So misleading. And the sad and infuriating part is that many councilmembers seemed sympathetic and supportive at the council meeting today.

I am also glad he withdrew but this is not about circumventing term limits. He would have has no power to vote on laws or set the budget. This is about corruption, and I hope him being forced to withdraw sends the message this ish does not fly here.

I'm assuming this vacancy will not be filled now (good), but will also show just how wired this was for Rice.

It’s a soft corruption that has too long been the case in Montgomery County. My main question is why the focus on Rice and not the cushy county jobs that Peter Fosselman keeps getting or even worse, Michael Subin who was on the county council for 20+ years.

It always surprised me that Rice didn’t arrange a b.s. job for himself at Montgomery College or the Universities at Shady Grove. There is so much administrative bloat in academia that no one would think twice.
