Who on the council besides Friedsen, Bascombe, and Luetdke are not "super progressive"? I'm serious

Are you referring to Friedson, Balcombe, and Luedtke?

No- 3 completely different people actually. Thank you so very much and sincerely for your spelling correction.

Neither Albornoz nor Katz are remotely "super progressive".

Sayles I'm not sure why you think she is "super progressive" unless you are just assuming anyone who is Black is "super progressive". Same with Fani-Gonzalez and Latinas.

Stewart is pretty progressive but not in a dogmatic way.

The only ones I'd describe as "super progressive" are Jawando and Mink and they do and will continue to be routinely outvoted just as Jawando was in the last Council and Elrich was before him.

They all like to spend lots of money but that doesn't make them "super progressive". It is mostly to placate the unions and their mostly White donors.

Non-white elected officials as puppets of their white campaign donors - now there's a take.

1) I'm far from the only person who feels this way about a very clear issue.

Hi Jason. You can call yourself whatever you want, but you're not moderate, and you don't represent Montgomery County.

i beg to differ. I’m liberal and think he is spot on. he seems conservative to super progressives. and many people here are super progressive. those folks think anyone who doesn’t agree with them is a Trump supporter. It isn’t true and it’s not fair that the progressives completely shut out regular liberals. policy made in an echo chamber is almost always bad policy. and that is why MoCo is in decline. not because progressive policies are bad, but because they aren’t pragmatic. tempering them a bit with regular liberal (or gasp, moderate) input would make things much more successful.

Who is shutting you out, specifically, and how are they doing it?

I do not obsess about Jason, but from what I've seen, most of the candidates Jason supports lose. That, if nothing else, will tell you that he doesn't represent Montgomery County. Not to mention the hubris of setting yourself up to represent Montgomery County in the first place.

The whole past four years' worth of bills have been virtue signaling without trying to figure out how things could be operationalized.

At the very foundation is racial equity. They are trying to close gaps with really poor policy that actually makes things worse for people of color, instead of taking more measured approaches that might not close the equity gap, but would actually make things better for people of color. But anyone who asks them to slow down a bit is accused of being racist. So everybody suffers, including the populations the politicians purport to care about.

As far as what Jason's named his blog, I'm not sure why this bothers people so much. Nobody thinks he's trying to speak for the county as a whole. Nobody even thinks he's trying to speak for all moderates in the county. He is providing a platform and perspective for those who would like to see more measured approaches to change.

No, but people who say racist things are often accused of saying racist things. Not to mention that this isn't anyone shutting anyone out. When I express an opinion about an opinion you expressed, I'm not shutting you out. Just like you're not shutting me out when you express an opinion about an opinion I expressed. If you expect to be able to express an opinion and get only agreement as a response - well, I don't know what to say.

I'm not going to get into arguments about whether someone who literally calls his public persona "Moderately MoCo" or "MoCo Moderately" is or isn't setting himself up to speak for all moderates in Montgomery County.

Hi. I’m glad to see moderate viewpoints start popping up. I think there are a lot of people in the middle.

I am surprised there were no other applicants allowed for this job. That does not seem ethical. They could have for the very least interviewed other candidates.

Not to count noses or anything, but even assuming that Jews are just plain non-Hispanic white (an assumption white supremacists disagree with): "non-Hispanic white" does not apply to 3 of the 4 at-large members, and 2 of the 7 district members.

And the so-called super-progressive ones, in particular, are non-non-Hispanic white.

So, which councilmembers, specifically, were you (or the PP, or whoever) claiming are placating their mostly white donors?

If you are referring to my post about super-progressives, I wasn't referring to councilmembers. I was referring to the very loud, very active voters in Takoma Park and Silver Spring. If we could somehow get upcounty to vote in the same percentages of their registered voters, we would have a very different council right now.

Having said that, as much as I hated the expansion of 5 to 7 district councilmembers, it has had a moderating effect on this council. It gave upcounty two councilmembers rather than one. It created a majority Latino district (6), which might backfire a bit, because there is an assumption Latinos are liberal, and they are much more mixed in political perspectives. And District 4 includes some very outspoken limousine liberals in North Bethesda who won't care so much about racial equity but will care about bike lanes messing up their commutes.

Oh, it's the Takoma Park/Silver Spring cabal theory again.

There certainly are some people in Bethesda and North Bethesda who are upset about safer roads generally and bike lanes specifically, but as far as I know, none of these people have anything to do with limousines.

All of them mostly get their money from White people. White people have a lot of money. I don't know why you are even arguing with this.

And Moco360 is setting themselves up to speak for all of MOco? How about Moco show?

It’s a name and the only reason a certain small group are bitter about it is that it has quickly risen in popularity and following.

As far as “Moderate” goes, my views would be consider left of center in the vast majority of the US.

Middle of the road voices are extremely needed especially when you have people like the person in this thread trying to hijack any conversation into a personal attack (on me or others) because they can’t handle actually debating and discussing the issues.

So they have turned this thread from the corruption of creating a new job just for one specific person that makes $214k a year (including benefits) to do a job that seems part time or maybe a 10 hour a week job into a question of what I named my blog 3 years ago. That’s exactly the type of thing that’s wrong with this county… people that can’t discuss an issue but would rather use ad hominem attacks to distract. Don’t fall for it.

Email you council members to oppose this new position being created through cronyism today!

PS - the candidates I picked for the most part did better than expected and the thousands who visited my website on Election Day and during mail in voting was a great indicator of how many people support common sense moderate candidates.

As for "moderately" - you can call yourself whatever you want, but "LeansRepublicanMoCo" would be more accurate, and no, that doesn't make you a moderate.
